Will a NW ring work with a 9 speed rapid rise rear mech without chain drop? I have a short cage mech on my bike and wandered if anyone has tried this combination.

Thanks

I assume you didn't have a chain device? Good to hear though 🙂

No. I ran 11-36 9-speed, XT rapid rise, RaceFace NW. That was vastly more successful than the previous set-up, which was a standard 9-speed 36 tooth singlespeed ring with a top-guide. That still dropped surprisingly often, and was a pain to re-fit the chain. I had no problems with the NW at all.

FWIW, I can't see that rapid rise can really make any difference here - the mech's tension is basically the same. Obviously, rapid rise is more better, but it never really caught on, so 10-speed forced me back to "slow-rise".

😉

Us "rapid rise-ists" need some sort of support group. 😕

Sounds good "the rapid rise-ists", all 3 of my bikes are rapid rise. I may have to get a couple of spare mechs - just in case 😆
