I thought about this briefly but the mounts under the downtube are so low that removing the bottle would be a pita, a very small camelbak, waist pouch thing or seat tube holder is probably best.

MMMMmmm yes I get where your coming from.

thanks trip to get a little camelbak is is one the cards, if I take my big one I know I'll just fill it with crap!!

I haven't used one myself as all my bikes have proper mounts, although fitted a fair few & never had any come backs with them

If you want a small hydration pack for a race (with little or no storage) then Argos have some for £12, not sure how good the bite valve is though as haven't got around to buying one yet.
