Have been looking for a stand that will raise the rear wheel for washing and degreasing/oiling the chain on the Ebike, I’ve been using a park bike stand but it’s a faff and wondered if anyone has built something like this out of wood?

Not a mobile solution, but I have a wall-mounted bike repair arm thing that folds away. Very easy to use. I just hook my saddle in it to oil the chain and wotnot.

I suppose it's a case of is it worth the time making versus the cost of the shelf.

We have the Topeak one in the camper for use at races if we need to do adjustments. its not as good as a normal stand but takes up a lot less room.

In the garage we have a modified TV fold out wall bracket that is attached to a Park head clamp.
Works a treat and no problems with the weight of an Emtb

This cost nowt. Two bits of scrap wood screwed to the fence so I can wedge the front wheel in. Car axle stand under the BB to hold the back wheel up.

I was going to ask what the point - just buy the stand. Then I googled and found it’s £50! That seems pretty top ish. You could do something out of wood with 2 cheap rubber coated hooks on it - it just might need a bit more bracing to be strong enough vs the strength of the metal tubing. Plus if it keeps getting wet it could look manky quite quickly.

Hi Neil

Its a security gate that we installed after a break-in a few years ago. We ended upgrading everything in order to deter potential thieves.
There are different grades of locks, steel and fittings available and we bought the sturdiest one we could find. Came from a specialist fabricator in Hillsborough.

It also allows us to get the Tourneo in front of it

That's genius @Tracey 👏

Decathlon did one very similar to the Topeak one for about £15...can't find it now though.

I have a proper stand these days but before that I'd use a rope over a beam in the garage or on a hook on the door frame, hooked under the saddle to raise it off the ground a couple of inches. Old innertube can work well too if the heights are right. Wedge the front wheel against the toolbox to stop it flopping around too much. I've never been shy about putting the bike upside down either, never worked out why that was meant to be a bad thing (except for my old Magura Julies, they hated that).

I have a FJM Custom Bike Stand (you can find them on FB), it cost more then the topeak one, but I've now had it 5 years I think with no issues. A friend picked up the topeak and broke it in a month.

I use the FJM when storing the bike to keep it upright and over the floor anchor, I've used it to clean the whole bike or just the drive train, do maintenance on the drive train and I also take it with me to stand my bike up when getting ready to ride in a carpark/layby.

If I lost or broke this, would buy another in a heartbeat.

How about one of these for £14.

https://www.tredz.co.uk/.XLC-Hollow-Axle-Display-Stand_127027.htm

It pokes in the hollow bit of your axle to keep the rear wheel off the ground.

You can still gently turn the pedals.

Thanks for the suggestions, can’t use a hollow crank stand unfortunately as E-bike doesn’t have one.

I have one very similar to the topeak one which I acquired from my LBS in the 80s. Works fine with road bikes and old skool MTB but chunky stays, stays in odd places on full sussers, and larger wheel diameters ie 29+ and fat touch the ground still!
