As in the title,
I am eyeing up a Canyon Torque, but I am very aware of all the fun extra costs of getting it over to the UK. I did find this snippet below on their Brexit FAQ though.
"Will I have to pay any customs charges or duties?
No, the pricing of all our products factors in any duties or customs handling fees applicable. We then pay the duties on your behalf, meaning there are no extra third-party charges upon receipt of your Canyon order. This includes regular bikes, ebikes and gear."
So am I reading this correctly that I buy a bike from Canyon, its delivered and then I do not have to pay anyone anything extra? Or have I got that completely wrong and the UK VAT 20% cost still applies? Obviously the former is what I want it to mean and I am taking that from the info above.
I bought my Neuron back at the beginning of last year and they were saying the same thing. The price I payed was all it cost me, they take care of the rest. They had put the bike's price up by £400 from it's previous price to cover it mind!
I bought (leased/whatever) a Lux Trail on the bike to work scheme (delivered in December last year).
The price generated on website is what you pay. No additional costs over and above that (delivery and box add a few quid to headline price obviously).
Really painless experience to be honest. The bike is great too.
Second what AD said. Paid the price I saw.
You are reading it correctly. The price you pay is the price it will be. There are no other charges. Remember tho once order is placed it can be weeks before they send you the invoice to pay and weeks before the bike is shipped.
I bought a spectral last November and what the website said is what I paid, I did notice about a month later the price had gone down but now it's gone up above what I paid.
This is all exactly what I wanted to hear. Thanks all. At least this gives me a chance to work out what size I want....
As above, you pay the price quoted but then prices went up significantly post Brexit...
Still, now that Rees Moog has asked Sun readers to identify all of the benefits we'll soon see it was all worth it.
I replaced my dead endurace and had similar fears, website has conflicting info so I double check with support and they said dont worry. I still worried 🙂
All find at the end of the day, turned up with no surprises.
Mine was delivered on Thursday and the only charge was the one on the invoice.
No hidden or extra import duties or clearance fees.
A very slick and impressive service all round.
My brain wants the new Spectral but my heart/mid life crisis really wants the Sender so I can do a few more pure DH trips before I'm too old and scared.
Does anyone know if you can buy one from the HQ in Koblenz? Or is it just a showroom? I know you can save a chunk of cash on a Commencal if you're visiting Vallnord.
I'd be temped to try and pick one up on the way to the Alps.
The information on this page suggests you can pick up from Koblenz
https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/explore-content/canyon-showroom.html
Remember there's a big difference; there's no Vat in Andorra.
Two wife and I both ordered bikes from them as Christmas presents to ourselves. Price payed at point of order was all it cost.

In theory you save no money and add complexity. If you do it correctly, you buy in Germany, and pay German VAT you then export it putting in for a refund of German VAT, you then arrive at the UK, declare it pay VAT and import duty.
In practice....
Just had a quick look on the website...
In Germany the Spectral 125 CF 9 is 5799 Euro= £4834
In my basket including a box and delivery to the UK the price is £5667.99
That's a lot of extra money just to stick a bike on the back of a wagon. Unless in Germany they add the sales tax at the point of purchase like in the States? Not sure.
A big part of that is you're spot printing your exchange too, they won't be. GBP is good against the euro at the moment, if they priced in say April last year it was 1.15 and looking to be going down, so (as they have a list price in GBP), they would have priced at eg 1.12.
Which would have been 5120, duty at what ever applies (14% iirc?), Boxing & Shipping, Vat on shipping, handling costs and so on would put you at your 5667 easily enough.
(As your mention German vat, also bear in mind, if their website is vaguely clever, it'll know you're not in EU so will be showing the EX vat rate even if you'd normally see the Inc vat price from inside the EU)
