Hey guys. Looking to buy myself a new hard tail. My budget £1500.
I would like your suggestions, what would you guys buy if you had this money. At the moment I am looking at the Cube reaction gtc race because. Any other alternatives from Trek, Cannondale, Specialized, Scott (i like Scott and specialized, but specialized seems a bit expensive).
Anyway I am waiting for you storming with suggestions. Let me know what other options are out there.
Thanks

Cotic. End of thread 🙂

Take your pick

For that budget I'd get something a little custom rather than an off the shelf mainstream bike. British steel hardtails rock !

Whyte 905 / RS. Good spec, UK designed (crud mounts), pushing the mainstream boundaries of geometry, comes in orange, great reviews.

Have you seen what you get for your money? Plus very good customer service, and you can change the spec to suit what you want.

What type of riding is it for? Racing or general trail riding?

For a light xc bike the Scott scale would be a good choice. I've just got a 740 frame and it's great 🙂 might still be 2015 reduced price carbon frame versions around too.

Scott Scale if you want a firm racey ride.

Orbea alma is nice but only a 27.2 seat tube.

Kinesis ff29.

Trek Stache.

Cube's are nice and all but dont seem to hold value at all as always seem heavily discounted. Might not be an issue though if you keep it for a long time.

good deals to be had on 2015 NS Eccentric models at the moment.

Lovely looking, very capable, on trend detailing.

If its something racey then http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/m1b0s155p5413/CANNONDALE-F29-CARBON-3-2014
Or if you want a more playful, longer travel hardtail as said try Cotic or Stanton https://www.stantonbikes.com/
If you fancy a 27+ the Charge range look really good value

Have had a quick go on one of these, I like it, feels like it wants to go fast.

yup, the Solaris or the Soul or the Orange Clockwork 29er would be my choice. Great prices on pinkbike for 2nd hand Clockworks.

Really!
Slightly heavier that Carbon & aluminium but will be more durable than Carbon and ride "better"? than Ali.

Orange P7 is soon to be relaunched, I think. Looks mint, and almost certainly will be. Google for pics.

You'll get as many recommendations as there are people on the forum!!

For what it's worth, it's a plus one for Whyte -- my wife has a Whyte MTB (905, I think) and I have a Saxon Cross

But on the MTB front ... it's a Giant XTC composite all the way for me!

I have looked around cotic, orange, whyte bird they look like nice bikes and for the spec, to be hones in some of the terminology I am lost as I don't know what is better than what.
For my riding style I still think that I wouldn't be going for a steel frame like comic. From what I have read in the forums, they do feel great and just slightly heavier, but they perform well for some DH stuff, and are more durable than carbon or alu.

+1 on the Crush. Great choice out of the box, it's a banzai trail thrasher.

Scott Scale 740 got a good write up in issue 98 ie 'a nice, fast o -the-peg bike that will last, you really can’t go wrong at this price'

As Clink asked tho - what do you want to do with it? I'm biased towards cv, but I f you can't answer the question just yet, just get something cheap and see how you go.

The answers are in numerous older threads. Take some time and read through.

Good luck.

Not really as
A) it was only a quick ride of someone else's.
B) I've ridden a fat bike for the last 18 months.
So anything would have felt agile & light but I can tell you the owner was having a ball on it in the loamy muddy stuff, looked a helluva lot of fun

Ali is as durable as steel and can feel just as good...though die hard beardy steel bike fans won't admit that.

I'd probably just buy a used bike for 6-800 and see how that goes.
