I think unfortunately it may be time to say goodbye to my 26 inch PP Shan. Although I love how it looks and how it feels, in some situations (e.g. steep sections) it feels tiny and I'd like something bigger. I'm 6 foot 2.5" and at a guess I would say the 26" PP Shan in XL is no more than 450mm reach, possibly even less.

Could someone please help with sizing advice for a 275 replacement? I have my eye on a Ragley Blue Pig or a Slackline, both of which have a reach of around 480mm in their largest sizes. Is that too small for my height? The other one I have my eye on is the Kingdom Vendetta which could stretch the reach to 503mm if I went for the XL.

For reference my full suspension bike has a reach of 495mm. Part of the reason for asking is I don't know if sizing for fs and hardtails is the same - think I read somewhere hardtails are generally sized smaller.

Thank you

I’m 5’ 11” on a Large 27.5 Vendetta X2, longer in the arms/torso, depends on whether you want short reach you could go large but maybe extra large and a short stem.
They’re great frames, very playful in 27.5. Not ridden one as a 29er so can’t comment on that. Your full Susser won’t get much use.
Quite different ride feel to a steel frame.

Have a look at Bird Bikes - the Zero AM boost is 27.5 and they go to enormous reaches if required. I’d think you’d be on a large at that height.

The teach gets longer on a hardtail when your fork sags - which is different to fs as the rear shock would also sag to compensate for the fork sagging.

Kingdom will do custom geo like a L seat tube on an XL frame if you ask. And as above, HT reach gets longer once the bike is sagged, so add 10-20mm onto the unsagged reach numbers. To complicate things ever further, so geo charts are sagged, some are unsagged.

Thanks everyone, appreciate all the input.

Joebristol/tau11pau1 that makes total sense what you’ve both said about the reach getting longer on an HT once sag happens. I didn’t think about that but it makes total sense.

I’m still torn between the 480mm reach and 503mm reach. Which do you think is more suited to my height please for a HT?

The best thing of course would be to try a few, but that’s easier said than done, especially at the moment

Depends on travel/sag, but 480 should feel quite close to your 495 full suss. Whether you'd prefer longer on the HT depends on you, but personally I'm happier with a slightly smaller frame for the kind of riding I'd pick a hardtail for.

Thanks honourablegeorge.

I’ve taken a look at the Pace 627 which seems to be a good option, at a similar price to the Ragley. Although I think the Ragley is the better looking frame, which is always a factor when you’re parting with a load of cash!

I'm 6ft 3in and ride a size XXL YT Jeffsy, 510 reach, 660 ETT. My previous bike was a size XL Vitus escarpe, 495 reach, 665 ETT.

I've been looking at HT frames a while, if I was to go for pace 627 it would be the XL at 504 reach, 675 ETT. Kingdom vendetta, would be XL - 503 reach, 665 ETT

Both the above are fairly long though, I'd actually prefer:
Nordest Bardino L (biggest size) - 485 reach, 664 ETT

What's the ETT on your FS bike? The Jeffsy and Vitus felt identical when sat pedalling, due to the ETT being within 5mm, thanks to the steeper seat angle of the Jeffsy. A little more reach (only felt when standing) is never a bad thing IMO.

The kingdom and nordest are also very very similar in geo, apart from the extra 18mm reach (possibly down to the 150mm 27.5 vs 160mm 29er fork) and 510 vs 470 seat tube (but kingdom will sort that).

At your height I wouldn't entertain anything but the biggest size in almost all bikes.

Oh, if you're looking at the Kingdom, DO NOT miss the Moxie Ti.

510 reach, 652 ETT, 77.5 SA(!), 64 HA, 420 seat tube(!!!!).

That would be right up there at the top of my list.

Thanks for all the info Ta11pau1

My bike is 2018 Reign carbon in XL. They don't specify an ETT, but the top tube length is 680mm. I didn't think ETT was a good indicator of size though?

Interesting that you'd say you would go for the XL Kingdom at your height, as you're only half an inch taller than me. I think it was an fs I'd go for it, as its only a small leap from my 495mm reach Reign.

But the point that a few people have made above on the reach 'growing' with sag on hardtails is whats holding me back. A 504 reach for example on the Pace or 503 on the Kingdom is probably ok, but may be too much if its going to grow 10-20mm with sag.

Is this your bike?

https://www.giant-bicycles.com/gb/reign-advanced-1-2018

XL geo gives 495 reach and 680 ETT (same at tope tube) thanks to the 73 degree seat angle.

This is a really good site: https://bikegeo.muha.cc/

Lets you put in geo numbers and then alter fork length to allow for sag.
The Pace 627 with a 140mm pike, unsagged vs 32mm sag (23%):

[img] [/img]

So, 671 ETT (4mm less) and 520mm reach (15mm more) when sagged. I forgot that because the seat angle also steepens, ETT gets shorter.

Given your Reign has a 680 ETT and 495 reach, I'd still go XL. ETT is good for size when sat down, reach is for size when stood up.

The pace 627 will feel similar when sat down but a bit more roomy when stood up!

Yes that's pretty much my bike, same geometry, although mine is the separate frameset.

That site is really good, thank you!

If at all possible I think the solution will be to try and demo some. Unfortunately both Pace and Ragley are a long way from me but it might be possible with the Kingdom.
