Heading up to Eskdale on Thursday for the Boot Beer Festival and taking the bike of course.
Whilst i wait for my mates to turn up i was thinking of heading up Hardnott Pass, how will a 33lb slack angled mtb fair on the road climb do you reckon?
Worth taking the big camera for the views?
You'll be fine. You've pushed up stuff before, yeah? ;0)
Which end will you start from?
It's not as nasty from the Eskdale end at the start but from the Langdale end the first climb is a nightmare. On an MTB you'll be popping wheelies in the easiest gear you've got and wanting something easier. If you're coming from Eskdale you'll just find it a right old slog.
Shouldn't be a problem though. You're used to big hills, yes?
Camera? Meh? It's far from the most picturesque view up there.
Sod all to do with cycling, but my favourite (childhood) memory of the Duddon Valley was a guy shooting jumping salmon with a folding .410 !
Heading up from the Eskdale side, fancy having a look at the old Roman fort near the summit.
Looks like i'd better take walking shoes 😉
Also, planning a route through Mitedale, past Burnmoor Tarn and down into Wasdale Head before heading back past Burnmoor Tarn and down into Eskdale. What is the descent/climb into Wasdale from Burnmoor like?
ignore my camera comment. For some strange reason I was thinking about the view from Honnister. No, it looks nice up there.

Definitely worth taking the camera then!
Descent into Wasdale has been "improved" - so that has bollox'ed it right up........... was there 2 weeks ago
We managed Hardnott from Langdale end on 28lb bikes with 3 days worth of gear after 50 miles and 2500m climbing (just...............)- possibly joined halfway up though.........
I must have been going a bit delirious though - one sight of hairpins and I assumed I was in France and rode all the way up on the right hand side
worth trying just to say you've done it - come back down via harrter fell though just to make it a bit fun
Oh and for locals pedantry reasons it's HardKnott
