Keep being tempted by these - need to demo one when I have more cash again. At 5'10" I seem to be border M/L - what are those of you of similar height riding?

I’m still hankering after one of these, in black set at 140mm.  It’d have to be one in, one out though so I’d be selling my race HT leaving me with a Solaris and a Scott Spark RC, feels like a bit of a commitment/expense.  The build I’d want is £2200.

Like @kryton57 I am also hankering. I have the Mk2 Solaris which I love. But I could also plunder it for parts. Slack 29 winter proof HT....hmmm...

But I also see that they still have a Soda in my size too. FFS...

CAN SOMEONE JUST BY THE SODA PLEASE SO I DON'T END UP SELLING A KIDNEY!

@Clink I'm 5'10" and have ridded both a Medium and a Large. I can happily say that the Medium was the correct size and the Large was too big. Mainly in the wheel base/manuvrabilty side of things, the Medium felt natural and large felt big and awkward.

Cheers
Rich

I’m the same height, on a Medium SolarisMAX. The large is a monster.

Really want a SodaMAX now. But ££££

I'm just under 6 foot and mine up there ^ is a large and it fits fine, had a large mk 2 before in large too.

I did demo one at Cotic HQ before buying just to make sure.

@Clink 5'11", tried medium, large, medium again. Ended up buying medium, and am running a 50mm stem. The large felt fine going up and along, but I felt like a bit of a passenger when things started pointing downhill.

Riding a size large at 5'11", fits really well with a 35mm stem. Had it for about 6 months and it's easily the best hardtail I've ridden, super versatile too, from steep downhill tracks to bikepacking with just a change of tyres. Best colour too with the gold glitter!

On-one sold 26" Inbreds in that same glossy black/ gold flecks colourscheme a few years back; they called the paint 'Barry White', best name for a bike of colour yet. Think I've still got that 18" frame up in the loft, if anyone wants it.

Meantime, I'm riding a large Solaris max, am about 5'11" and it has a 40mm stem. It fits great and is a superb bike for packing, Dunkeld-type woodland trails and big mountain days too. OP; Enjoy!!

Had mine over a year now. Doesn't look like that anymore 😀

EDIT: Oh, for Clink - 175cm here and Medium. It's roomy out front! 35mm stem and 800 bars, I'm 130mm Fox but 140 wouldn't hurt (equally I'm not likely to change either)

Next purchase wold be 27.5 plus or just 2.6" on 27.5 it for the bike parks the boys like playing in - think it'd feel a bit sharper on the jumps than 29.

just about built, only one important bit missing...

You're not wrong about cosmic black being the best colour either...

The black really is a good colour. But I have five black bikes in the shed, so really hoping the green takes my fancy when it's available.

Have they sold out of the new stock already?

I was waiting for these to come back in stock but its now saying august?

With regards sizing i had the previous gen Solaris but in a large but it felt little short to me at my height of just under 6ft but im a long legged freak.

The stock was delayed from May, so they airfreighted some frames over for people who had been waiting for a while.

The main re-stock, along with the new green colour will be in August.

Reading this and being 5'11" I am no nearer knowing what would be the best size for me. Seems to be a range of answers above. I am of average limb and body proportion.

I am currently on a Mk2 Medium Solaris, and although is ok...could do with a roomier top tube. Which the medium would give.

Having tried a medium Flaremax...that felt fine - just too low in the seat tube (easily remedied with a longer dropper).

Am I missing the point of longshot by going for the medium?

mccraque

There's still the element of personal preference. As you say, the LS medium will give you a bit more room. Whether you want a lot more room or a little more room is up to you.

As someone who rides a Geometron, I'd say you'd be surprised how "normal" a longer bike feels. I think people get a bit over excited about it all, and rush to declare that a bike that's a whole TWO INCHES longer than theirs couldn't possibly go around a corner, ever. It's a subtle change (for the better IMO) in most cases, especially if done in combination with steeper seat, shorter stem, etc. Just a little different.

Nice build OP. These are such great bikes.

I'm also in the "hmmm" camp on the new green colour though. Not at all helped by the orange ano bits in those pics.

@mccraque - I’m the same height as you but short legged/long back and armed. I had a Mk1 Solaris Medium, a Flaremax Medium and now a Solaris Max Medium. As I’ve said before on this forum, Cy thinks I should be on a L but around the FoD etc, I prefer the smaller bike. As Kelvin says the longer TT is where I want the dimensions to go big.

With a 31in leg, I can run a 170mm dropper (With room for a bit more) and I ride it all day all over the place. I really don’t miss having a large. When I get onto my (L) Ripmo it feels enormous.

Oh and THIS is the best colour 🙂

5'11" here on a Large with a 35mm stem - tried a medium and just felt it was too small for me. Only 120mm old Reba forks which lets the side down, could do with something less noodly. Black and Gold of course... Can't post pictures because I'm a luddite/useless but I'm sure everyone else's will be better than mine anyway!

Has anyone seen any more photos of the BRG? Ideally in some different lighting. The previous BRG models I really didn’t like but the new one looks about three different colours in different pictures and I can’t tell what I think of it.
