So before spending some money I thought I would check I'm not missing anything.

I recently got a shiny new (well 2016) mondraker foxy! I love it! It's amazing but I knew I would want wider bars (it has 760) I had put 800s on my old hardtail, I have long arms and broad shoulders. Unfortunately these are 35mm clamp and stem on foxy is 31.8 so can't swap them.

My next issue is on an XL foxy with my seat nice and high in a comfy riding position the ends of the handlebars are about 3 inches lower than the seat. I have a fairly bad lower back and even with this drop the bike and the more stretched out position is so much better for my back but I do think I want higher bars for overall control and comfort.

Current bars are mondrakers own 20mm rise 760mm wide. I don't want to spend a fortune and am looking at the Nukeproof warhead in 38mm rise and the Spank Spike in 50mm rise.

However the upsweep on the nukeproof being 2degrees steeper than the SPank means they will only be 4mm lower.

SO finally getting to my question is there anything else I should look at other than just a riser bar, this still will leave bars fairly low. there are 2 spacers under the stem and about 3mm between top of steerer and top of stem so dont want to add any spacers and trying to keep it cheap as just spent the money on the bike.

I also don't quite get what people do surely anyone buying an XL mondraker is fairly tall and will have the saddle high. In fact this is a general gripe I'm having a Small or XL gets 760mm wide bars and the same skinny grips etc. don't they think someone on an XL will have bigger hands and longer arms? I know it's a cost thing but a bit annoying!

Anyway any advice on if I should do anything other than buy the higher rise bars would be appreciated. I don't want to buy them then have to change something else later.

All thoughts appreciated.

The stem on the hardtail is 70m long new stem is 30mm I like the short stem so didn't want to go longer.

Low stack / handlebar height is one of the biggest fit problems for really tall guys in my experience.

Without either having a longer steerer (which obviously isn't an option!) or a new stem with a greater rise, I don't think there's anything you can do sans the riser bar.

There are some stems out there that have 25 - 30 degree rise which effectively makes them seem shorter than their length in mm (if that makes any sense at all), but I don't think that'd get you anything close to 30 mm unfortunately.

Cheers blueflamespecial.

The additional reach on the mondraker has already helped my back and it doesn't feel like the bars are stupidly low.

I think basically I was going to buy some tall riser bars but wanted to make sure I wouldn't think in 6 months oh I wish I had done that etc!

Cheers
