hammerschmidt say you must use their grease when servicing their cranks? Is this a load of bull? Or do they really have the best grease in the world? As it retails for £20 for 25ml what would be a decent substitute? Maybe the 2nd best grease in the world would suffice.

I got a tub of the stuff my lbs uses on mine and it works fine.
I take it apart every month or so for a clean and re-grease, easy job, it´s well put together.

Just regular green stuff in a tub. I used to use white lithium grease, that worked fine too but didn´t last as long, it´s a bit too light.

I use oil in mine as I found it tended to be slow to operate with grease and would freeze up in the winter. Using oil makes the Hammerschmidt much more instant, although it means I do service it more regularly but it's a doddle to do so why not spend the time?

As with my Hope Pro2 rear hubs I use Pedros Synlube as it's what I have kicking about... if the hub or Hammerschmidt gets damaged by my actions then it's my problem but the way they are built makes me think they will be fine. I'm not reccomending this... just saying it's what I do
