Hey I'm not complaining, bike park Wales for a race day, doesn't get any better.

I can't wait to hear the conversation tonight over tea when he speaks to his mother about taking day off

I'll make that less of a surprise.

Mrs weeksy to phrases such as "why am I the bad guy here" & "Your dinner's in the dog" a few minutes later to weeksy junior over the tea you're having to eat in the garden "Ask your dad!"

The conversation just went like this

"Do you think it's a good idea taking the day out of school"
"I bunked off loads and I'm doing ok for myself"
"Muppet. Do whatever you think is best"

That's a yes isn't it?

No, it means go on your own but be sure to send lots of photos, videos, instabang what now to junior all day, complete with wish you were here you're messages.

Let's face it, that's exactly the approach you'd take with a friend who couldn't get the day off

I once got permission from school for Abigale to go on a MTB training week in Spain when she was 12.
Obviously she needed accompanying so I went along as well.
She also managed to get her school work experience out in the Alps.
Just need to sell the benefits to the school

Seems like a "bit of fun" race rather than an "so important I need time off school" race?

2000 days at school, he's barely missed one. He does brilliantly in every report he gets and has more class points for effort etc than anyone else.
He's earned a day out.

A race at BPW will live on both our memories for a long long time. What he did in history on a random day in march, not so much.

We're not doing it to be pro riders, we're doing it because we enjoy it

In 2 minds. Generally don’t condone days off school for any reason, but eldest disappearing off to uni in September, so very much aware of the old ‘they don’t stay young for ever’ mantra at the moment. So I would say go and enjoy it, but I wouldn’t do it again. I’m sure you feel much happier now you have my verdict 😀

It was more an invite to STWers who may wanna come racing and were not aware of it than it was a discussion on my parenting skills. I don't honestly care whether STW love it or lambast the idea, we're going either way and hopefully we'll have an excellent time.

I say hopefully, because i'm going to Belgium 2 days later lol.

Careful, with that kind of attitude he'll end up thinking that hard work, diligence and application leads to success!

FWIW (which isn't much) we take our kids out of school for anything we think is worthwhile.

All pedal up and mashup format? I can well imagine the first times down each stage being fastest for a *lot* of people!

School time aside, will be interesting to hear how well attended it is. I struggle these days to find clear weekends but could probably manage 3 or 4 odd days off through the year.. of course getting fit enough for it is a different matter!

I was initially interested in doing this, but no uplift? Err no, not for a race there! Takes the fun out of it. I've ridden the climb quite a few times, but wouldn't get many 'worthy' runs in would you!

Ive raced the Haibike mini enduro there before - the uplift is not a problem - you don't get it any other race its the same for BPW. Its a hard day in the saddle but doable for modestly fit people.

Not sure how a mid weeker will work out, If I wasn't so far away I would be tempted!

It depends how it's played, for example they're doing 'reds' they say. So run 1 may be AC-DC which takes you to the fire road, so you've done 1 climb.... then stage 2 may be surfing bird, so you're still only on 1 climb but now at the bottom and needing to go up.... but they could do that as bottom half of vicious valley, so you've only done 1.5 ups and completed the stages required.

http://minienduro.tv/2018/10/bike-park-wales-minienduro-december-2018/

They ran it there in 2018 too.

So that looks like Hot Stepper, Root Manouvers, vicious valley.

I'm OK with that mostly.... ish.
