Currently runninf a gx group set. I had changed to a x01 derailleur as found the gx seemed to have alot more slop in the joints and lost two after jockey wheels failed.
Is there any advantages in the shifting quality etc if I also swapped to a matching x01 shifter? Had a quick Google and mentions better build quality and materials used but not much of a comparison in use between the two.

Feels and looks nicer plus adjustable downshifter. Not much in it performance wise probably but a nice upgrade none the less.

If performance isn't much different then I'm not sure I could warrant the price tag. The rear mech is definitely a better built unit

If it was on my only bike, and I was buying new I'd buy X01 for sure. It's definitely better quality and feels nicer to use.

The adjustability above mentioned, allows you to fine tune where the lever is.

Paradoxically op I went the opposite way.lol

X01 shifter and GX mech. I'll get an X01 mech if I kill the current mech though.

What’s your budget? Rutland selling XX1 black shifter £68 which is bargain I got good price on SH one off eBay otherwise that price is very tempting over X01

I always thought all the tech for shifting was in the shifter? Mechs just get lighter through the range.

Here's a comparison between the various levels of Eagle - https://bikepacking.com/gear/sram-eagle-review/ (worth reading the section under "General Toughness")

Weightwise there's not much in it between GX and X01 mechs, just 12g.

Always go better shifter than mech. You could fit an XX1 mech to an SX eagle shifter and notice no difference to a full SX eagle setup, but you would sure as hell notice if you swapped the shifter for XX1 instead for example

I hadn't noticed the xx1 shifter. Was only looking on Rutland the other day. It's marked at 2017, is there any difference between that and the latest offerings

I've managed to find a black xx1 shifter on ebay for £64, looks mind and apparently used twice. Anyone on here?

Going to swap out the inner and outer cable aswell, it requires a fair bit of pre3when shifting up the cassette, I have nx 12 on another bike and find this alot easier to shift

Doesn't the X01 11spd have 'zero loss' shifting and the gx doesn't?

I bought the X01 for that reason and run it with a lowly NX mech. 32 with 10-42. Best shifting I've ever had after decades of XT. It's as fast and sounds like a mouse click. Shifting is just as instant. Maybe i just got lucky but I rate that zero loss tech. X01 shifter gets a big thumbs up from me. Never had less trouble with gears over a few years with it.
