So my bike started shifting like crap recently. I changed the chain and chain ring but it's made no difference! Today I have fitted a new cassette thinking "that'll be it" but nope still shifts like crap and jumps about.
So the only thing left is the mech! triple checked its indexed properly, tried a new inner and outer cable and replaced the jockey wheel bearings but its not helped.
I took the chain off and noticed that there's is about 1 cm of lateral play at the pivot! I do remember when I fitted it that it had a little bit but I'm sure there wasn't that much.
So, has anyone else had this issue, are there anyways to fix the mech or is it a case of replace that as well?
Sorry, to point out the obvious but I had this and it turned out to be unscrewing itself - tried that? Having said that mine has about 4mm side to side play but shifting is unaffected at 2 yrs old.
Nah, its currently in an old mech hanger in a vice. I've just had a look at my 11 speed gx mech and it's much more solid and that one is a few years older.
I've just had the same issue. I couldn't remove the play by tightening so I added a thick rubber washer before reinstalling - it removed most of the lateral play but it still shifted very poorly despite hours of fettling.
Never was a fan of SRAM, so ordered a new SLX shifter and rear mech for £70....faultless ride yesterday 🙂

Yeah, I ended up just buying a SLX rear mech last night. Nice to know it works well, cheers!
