My GX Eagle cassette has started making an annoying clicking noise when the chain is riding on the 5th sprocket.
Ive checked the indexing, which is fine - all other gears are pretty much silent.
it doesn’t look like any of the teeth are bent, but some of the teeth do look a little worn.
Ive had the groupset less than 12 months - is it really time for a new cassette??
I've had this on some eagle cassettes (x01 and GX) - but maybe gears around 8 or 9 and only when I upshift into it (if I shift down it doesn't do it)
I have absolutely no idea why, all I can say is the setup has to be damn near perfect with absolutely no imperfections or it simply doesn't work buttery smooth
ive since put a new cassette on and it started doing it again in the 8th or 9th in exactly the same fashion, with a new mech chain and chainring, (so basically all new!) it has settled down for now, but it still doesn't answer why it did it on my other worn in one
I think when shimano trickles down 12 speed ill consider that tbh, I like the gear range but its by far the most intricate setup ive ever experienced
one thing that did help get shifting better and less noisy in general was setting up from scratch again like you've just bought it
4th sprocket isn't bent is it? Or perhaps a bent hanger or mangled top jockey bearings. You know the jockeys are narrow-wide - are they correctly aligned?
Worn teeth usually manifest themselves as skipping in the higher gears.
I would say its the B limit screw, if thats not set up correctly will have issues. Its more sensitive than on other rear derailleurs. The red chain gap setup tool is essential.
I have had a similar issue with my GX Eagle. Not a click but a creak from the bloody thing under loading. If I take it easy, I don't hear anything. Had the exact same issue on a demo bike with the same set up too.
Reset and greased everything and still have it. Done around 600 miles so far and whilst it does not affect the ride, I can't find what causes it.
I hope you find a solution to your clicking.
Cheers.
I would have the mech hanger tested for straightness mate, as a start, then redo the indexing.
