Getting up to North Wales next week and planning a ride on the Gwydir Mawr trail. Is it easy to find? any advice on parking or current conditions?

Will be riding first thing Friday morning if anyone is riding.

Thanks
Chris

Don't know about conditions but very straightforward to get to from Betws. Head over the Pont y Pair bridge in the middle of the town and follow the B5106 towards Gwydir castle. As you approach the junction you'll see it signposted and the parking is free which is nice. While its not everyones cup of tea and plenty will grumble about the long fire road climb personally I've always really enjoyed and have had a great time riding there.

Enjoy 🙂

Stick "Gwydir Mawr & Bach" in google maps.

Thanks very much. I’ve ridden there once before but that was about 7-8 years ago so couldn’t remember about parking. Really enjoyed it last time so looking forward to riding it again.

Just park at Betws and ride up the lane. You cross the bridge in the middle of the village then turn left. You go up a couple of hills but it's a great warm up. You join the Marin track about 3/4's of the way round. It's good this way as you don't start on the MASSIVE fire road climb.

The new section pops you out at the same point you started, then it's just a lovely spin down the road back to Betws

It's pretty dry. We started in LLanwrst but you'll need to be early as the car park fills up. If it's warm, take plenty of water (we did but still had to refil from a stream).

Really enjoyed it - the Dragons Back is excellent. Make sure you take food etc with you as it's a bit remote in parts. Yep, there is some barstewardly long climbs, but it's worth it.

Haha, sounds good. Is it 2-3hrs for a loop roughly (37year old pace rather than rapid 10year old pace!)?

Yup it is. Great trail. Hits the final DH sections flat out. It’s a hoot.

It is good, aye. Some great riding, also just a nice day out- take some time to explore the ruins halfway round!

Was there last Saturday, started here Gwydir
There is a small carpark but it's open to the elements, last Saturday the weather was biblical. We were wet before we set off and got wet after changing out of our riding clothes.
