You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I am in Teeside for the weekend and have an opportunity to ride tomorrow morning. Anyone here advise if it is worth my while heading to Guisborough or will it be a unpleasant mud fest? Or will it be a decent ride for a couple of hours. I am not averse to mud but not really up for a slog through bogs with no pay back.
Cheers.
There are well surfaced tracks and bridleways that will be fine if you want an XC ride for a couple of hours up onto the moors and over towards Kildale. The off piste stuff in the woods will be horrific. It's completely saturated after these last 2 storms.
Thanks @Tom. I would prefer some Singletrack with a few features if possible as I have the AM160 with me. Are the marked red and blue the surfaced trails you mean?
Guisborough will be sodden! You could head over to Hamsterley?

Unless things have changed, not unless you want to be bored. One of the longest and most popular descents is/was actually a climb on the trail center route!
Trailforks or strava heatmap should show you where the descents are.
As for mud, it'll be bad. But at the same time its pretty steep so as long as you can ride it then it doesnt really erode! The flatter bits at the bottom of the hill might be hard work.
If you want a nice XC loop then grab an OS map and link together a loop from Saltburn up the footpath in the valley to Skelton, up the hill to skelton green, turn right and onto the moor, follow various road/tracks/footpaths to Skinningrove, push up the steps from the beach onto the coastal footpath and follow that back to saltburn. Its mostly farm tracks and sandy surfaces so was my reliable winter ride if I didnt fancy the mud or the moors. Long time ago so dont think i could find a gpx.
No the red route was removed* a while back. Blue still there but of limited interest. Was thinking more just the bridleway and forest path network.
Tbh without local knowledge you'll struggle to make much out of it in these conditions in a couple of hours.
As mentioned above Hamsterley would be a better bet.
*it was mostly existing paths anyway, they just removed the signs
Hmmmm Hamsterly is closer than I thought at around 40 mins but has trail closures due to forestry work. I think i will give that a go if I can raise my weary head early enough. Thanks for the advice on Guisborough
