to stave off post holiday blues i'm starting to plan next years adventures which will include a week on the bike in the alps as it's been a few years since last went.
have been guided and unguided in the past and enjoyed myself more on guided weeks. previously i've been around les arc with Trail Addiction and have had a mostly positive experience with them, but would like to try someone different.
any good recommendations? I've been told white room are good?
White Room are superb ime- though I've not been with the other best regarded operators so I can't compare. Because I went back to WR 3 years in a row mostly 🙂 Not really anything I'd change about it, Stevo and Iona are either brilliant at or very lucky at finding staff too, all the guides and chalet crew have been ace. Albeit possibly also deranged. And the food! And the trail network's awesome, they seem more happy to range wider than most of the les arcs guides so over to italy, up and down their old back yard in st foye... Trails from the door too if you want to ride on rest day, pedal up to the la rosiere lift or down to les arcs.
I'll be going somewhere else next time, just to do something different, but yeah- can't recommend too highly.

After the many, many, many recommendations on here for the white room I finally went out this summer and it was brilliant. Well run, friendly, varied, challenging and sometimes scary (in a good way) but most of all I liked the attitude of the guides and hosts, they made it fun and chilled whilst at the same time getting the best out of everyone and taking you to some great places.
Bike Verbier, simply the best!
White Room are superb
SHHHH! Don't tell everyone!
Steve posts up on STW too, proper amazing setup, great guides, it's like doing 6 days of Enduro racing #EPIC
There are lots of good options now, here are some I have bookmarked for future trips.

I did the 1001 tour with Ash who organises the trans provence last week, and have to admit I found it a lot technically tougher than I expected, after a couple of crashes midweek my head went and I couldn't cope as the week progressed. I don't think they are going to organise it again, but it was organised in conjunction with a french guide called Greg Germain who does guiding and organises an enduro race series in the area, he is really friendly and helpful. http://www.1001sentiers.fr
As per others, recommend The White Room.
Went last year with my GF and what struck us was the variety of trails we crammed in the week... from local natural stuff to the awesomeness of Pila/Aosta run.
I've skied with White Room and they are excellent. I would recommend them for biking with a couple of notes, they sell out pretty quickly and if you've ridden with TA is Les Arcs you might want to try somewhere different as there is a degree of cross over in terms of area. I rode Dest-X with TA and that's excellent, quiet in the evenings as Areches is very quiet but a pretty village. Verbier I've ridden 3 times now self guided, no doubt to get the best Bike Verbier is the way to go. I've met the people who run Bike Riviera and they are great. Basque MTB post up here and are well regarded.
Happy hunting
Been with TWR for two years. This year i wasn't going to do an Alps trip at all, but a friend had to drop out of a week with another operator so i stepped in to his place. And spent the whole week missing TWR guides! Next year, back to TWR for me!
We did our first guided holiday this year with Bike Verbier, and I couldn't recommend them highly enough. We had 6 (5 guided) days of the most awesome natural trail ever, saw few other riders (none on natural trails, few in the bike park on our day off). They pick you up from Geneva, or you can drive, so it's super stress free. The food was fantastic every night, with big breakfasts and trail lunches also provided. The guides were brilliant, great banter, really enthusiastic and pushed you hard without over extending. We will be back next year with more mates in tow for sure!
We had a great time with Bike Village when we went with them a few years ago. Top guides, great food, quality riding tailored to the differing abilities in the group, perfect week. Sam is a top, top bloke too.
Would have to be Bike Verbier. Had another great two weeks with them last month and have booked next year already. Its our twenty fifth anniversary later this year and if they were open it would be spent on the trails with them. They should be on everyone's bucket list.
Double post for some reason
I'd look at the guided TransProvence weeks or the BenJonesMTB trips. Both are ex-Trail Addiction, so you know the kind of riding you'll get 🙂 . Both are tours so you get to see and ride differnt ground every day as well as getting that "travelling" feeling.
I've done the TP tour and it was fantastic. Awesome varied riding and a very easy job made of an awkward logistical challenge. Well worth the cash.
Not ridden with Ben since he left TA, but the pics I've seen of his Mont Blanc Enduro and TransAlp epic look rather tasty. Possibly next year...
The White Room again from me. Going back for my fifth time. Tomorrow in fact. Bosh! 8)

Oh hi! I think I was there same week as you 😆
Another vote for White Room here. Been last two years and planning to return next year.
White room looks like a winner the . How early do you have to book to get a spot in August?
Sofaboy just email them (Stevo / Iona) and put a deposit down. I recall they released their summer prices around Sep or Oct last year and places fill fast. They take something like only 8 riders a week so only needs a group booking and their full.
