Hello, I currently have the Guide RS 2018 and they have offered me the Guide Ultimate 2018 at a good price. Is there much difference between them?.
In the downhill, the difference is notable?. Is it worth the change?
Thanks! ;).
Up.
Nobody can help me? :(.
The ultimates are lighter and prettier, and have the bite point adjust. They work amazingly well even on long descents, probably better than the RS but to be honest although I have ridden both a lot, I can't really remember which was more powerful. The ultimates are my favourite brakes though, the feel and power is really good. Downsides of the ultimates - the lever blades are carbon, which to me wouldn't be great if you're crash prone, also the bite point dial rattles - once you're happy you can just apply a little bit of helitape over the top but until then it will annoy you.
Pretty sure the power/performance is the same across the range. More expensive brakes get more expensive (lighter) materials and more adjustability.
As above.... Not much performance difference between the two when it comes to power. Pad change will have a bigger impact and it's cheaper.
Personally I'm not that impressed with his on long, step alpine descents. I find after 700-900m they can get a bit spongy depending on how steep the trail is.
If you want more power you’re probably better off looking at Code RSC over Guide RS I’d have thought.
The Guide RS came to me on the bike. Now they offer me the Guide Ultimate at a good price.
My question is whether it is worth the change.
I would say no unless its a really good price. I have the ultimate's and my last bike had the RS. The biggest difference is the carbon lever and a bit more adjustability if you need it, I haven't noticed any meaningful difference in performance either in the UK or on Alpine descents.
Sure the Ultimates are blingy and the carbon is nice so it depends on how much that matters and what the ££ is,
Depends on your priorities.
As above, you will save a little weight and add a bite point control but not gain any power.
Unless you want your bite point a few mm's from the bar then don't bother.
