Just had a totally fantastic weekend on South Wales and we're planning the next one. Thinking of doing Lee Quarry one day, and a big XC adventure the next. It's more fun if you don't have to argue over a GPS every 5 minutes, so anyone know of a good guide who'd take us around for a day?

Thanks

How do you argue with a GPS, the route is either correct or it's not. Navigating with a map is a big part of the fun !

TBH, unless you know the area, it can be a bit of a nightmare.

Lived round and about for 20 years and I still have no idea of half the trails people bang on about.

How much riding do you like to do in a day?

Lee Quarry might leave you feeling short changed - even with nearby Cragg Quarry tacked on it's an easy half day.

It's all short, sharp uppy-downy stuff - didn't feel like a proper ride to me. More of a muck about. And the signage wasn't great when I was there.

Not trying to slag it off here, just wondering if it's right for your group.

Not much of a navigator, and even less of a fan of being led by someone who isn't much of a navigator either. For me, the adventure's in the moving, not the stopping. Just personal preference.

Mucking about is fine with us - we try to do one big adventure - scenery, distance, mud etc - and one day to keep the kids (i.e. me) happy with jumps and drops etc. So we've just been in South Wales for one of our best trips ever. Did BPW Friday, which was brilliant fun for all, pure adrenaline all day long, and that great feeling of getting better. Then a big old loop at Afan, with lots of climbs and roots and rocks and puddles, then a half-day XC around Crickhowell. Everyone happy.

So we were thinking about Lee Quarry for our adrenaline day, as there's a bunch of stuff everyone can try a few times for their skills. Then a big day out doing as much singletrack as we can.
