Hi all Im looking for an interim fork upgrade for my 1998 GT tequesta. Currently It's got Manitou Answer Elaastic bloody band forks. What could I do as a budget upgrade, could I possibly raise the front end a bit with more travel?
A Rockshox fork of one type or another dependant on your budget.
100/120mm Reba's would be good, recon's or tora aren't bad either and can be had cheaper, & if they alter your geometry too badly you can just add an "all travel" spacer into the internal to bring the travel down
(you can keep going from the supposedly minimum setting of 80mm to 60 if you want)
Older guy that knows nothing of bikes, I did buy a new 1996 GT Tequesta, rode a few times and put in garage until this year. Bike is very nice but after riding on rocky, pothole filled logging road, am wondering what suspension to put on it. Am thinking of a good quality seatpost shock and a decent front suspension fork that can be locked out for street biking. wanting to keep overall weight to a minimum. Am a casual rider and would like to ride on some moderately bumpy walking trails in the forest and pedal around my neighborhood.
What components would folks on this forum recommend?
It will take a fork up to 100mm fine, I have a 1997 Bravado which will be very similar / the same frame design, and over the years have used rigid GT, RS Mag 21's (60mm), Magura Rond Quake 75mm & 105mm, Marzocchi MX Pro's (80mm), rigid carbon and RS Duke's (100mm) forks, and it feels best with the 100mm forks.
The Manitou's which you have are from a long bad period where they were the worst of the major manufactures.
You've not said what you mean by budget, but for £120 you can get a RS Recon TK from On-One
so a good option for a 96 Tequesta would be to buy a new Rock Shox Recon TK ?
Have been reading good reviews on NitroPro gas seatpost shocks too.
