I'm currently servicing a set of Pikes and no matter what I do, I cannot seem to persuade the oil (lower) seals to part company with the fork lowers.
I've tried using a screwdriver wrapped in tape, tyre levers and an expulsion of expletives but nothing seems to make them budge a chuffing bit, the best I can do is to tear a small piece of the seal away but the rest stays put.
Any tips?
19 or 20mm open end spanner, rag on top of fork to lever against, and work you way round the seal
What LoCo says, not that he needs my approval!
And if you've got mechanical sympathy, grit your teeth and wince. Did my Lyriks and it takes more effort than you want to use.
I left my old dust seals in to protect the tops of the forks when levering (til the oil seal 'gives', obviously).
Thanks all, I'll give that a bash.
Downhill tyre lever.
