Why (oh why) can't they agree on what a shoe size is - is that really so hard?
Trying to buy a new pair of SPD that actually fit me has become a major endeavour, old Specialized shoes were Euro 45 perfect for me (normal 9.5 / 10 UK shoe) with or without waterproof socks - but I wanted to change.
Bought Shimano ME7 in Euro 45 and ... they're to small for waterproof socks but Ok for summer socks - dammit off to ebay you go.
So expensive to buy in the first place and then they don't fit when you actually ride with them, as opposed to walk about in the shop.
Go to shop and get frustrated Shimano Euro 45 with summer sock but 46 with waterproof sock (depending on model!), Mavic Euro 46, Sidi Euro 46 or even 47 - WTF? !$%# and then try them all with and without waterproof socks - is it really that hard?
Grrr "standards" now got one new pair of shoes (in the right size, Euro 46 as it happens from Mavic with or without waterproof socks) and two pairs of shoes on flea bay.
Now hoping these last me forever so I don't need to go through it again to often.

Take 2 pairs of socks into the shop?
Or just buy the ones you had before

I own 5 pairs of specialized spd shoes (2x 2fo cliplite, 2fo clips, rimes, comp mtb's), all in a 48. Never even contemplated buying anything else, as they fit, last a reasonable amount of time.
My last pair have done really really well but they have started to literally disintegrate and hence the challenge of new ones.
First stop was the same again but they got rid of the stiffness in the soul since I had my pair and also my own riding has evolved a little so I want different things from shoes when i stopped to think of it.
I've ended up with a more 'do it all' type of shoe as opposed to a light stiff racey one :/
Not knocking big S at all, just not right for me this time around 🙂

Try being a size 47 and being able to buy _anything_ absolutely anywhere. One of the main reasons I wear shoes to death is because I have such a hard time finding anything to fit me. Buying them online is like playing Russian Roulette with my feet and I would rather not do that.

I'm a 9.5 or 10 in regular shoes, for some reason i'm a 10.5 in my favourite 5.10 climbers, but i was a 9 in my old boreals
I've been 3 different sizes in 5-10 none of which are close to the MTB shoe sizes either - they were smaller! That is before the bit where they make you buy them in pairs too!!
how much do you want for them outside of ebay?
