Got an ebike for the day this Sunday and looking for some route suggestions from Grizedale.

From a bit of research it looks like Parkamour and Claife Heights are worth incorporating.

Does anyone have any GPX files they could send me please?

Thinking 25 miles or so should be achievable.

Thanks.

Find PMBA enduro route, and take the GPX of that, it'll be perfect 'winch and plummet' use for an ebike tbh, some cracking descents.

Did the following route recently. It takes in some of the most obvious bridle ways and is pretty good bang for your buck. You could easily extend it to take in "the fox," another classic grizedsle bridle way and then the enduro tracks and a run down the black line before heading back to the visitor centre.

Parkamour 💞🐑💞

Depends what you're after, gnarrcore: go with above, scenic: off road lap of Coniston, high hills: Broughton moor forest walna scar,

Cheers all. That's looks just the job pdw. Will stick it on my Garmin.

Didn't realize the bikehike website was still up and running. Good to know!

My memory may be failing but hasn't some of Parkamor been resurfaced recently?

Yeah, but it's faster and still fun... on the right bike!

There was a thread last week on wet weather mtb routes which had a few suggestions. Grizedale is very much about trying to pack in as many of the good descents and the ebike will make the winching up a bit easier.

we're doing grizedale on saturday , and all will be on ebikes, have been taking tips from here, and have downloaded a few of the unofficial descents from trailforks as well.

Aside frome the name ,whats the breasty haw descent like?

If you mean the descent from Breasty Haw eastwards, it's known as Red Mist and was controversially felled at the bottom a few years ago - but is riding OK again now.

From the bottom you can take a quick spin up the road to the hole in the wall descent, then along the road again and up the Fox and down the baby heads descent to the visitor centre.

Should take you about 20 mins on an ebike.

😉

Cheers, on trailforks its called "breasty haw north descent", it seems to go north east down to a road and then there's another descent from there called devils gallop (on trailforks anyway) continuing north east.

Cant see hole in the wall (unless that is the devils gallop by another name?)

Yeah that's it, and the babies heads descent is just shown as a purple "bridleway" across from the top of the fox.

If you check the Strava route I posted above, that's exactly what I did. Hole in the wall does follow on over the ride from the end of bresty haw. You know you're on the right track, it's a literal description!!

It's only a quick road spin to Far Sawrey then to do Claife heights.

thanks all - really useful info.

Will see how the batteries are looking - but yep that could be an option.

Is that bridleway from claife heights down to windermere likely to be busy with walkers on a saturday afternoon?

or are you suggesting to go up to claife heights from far sawrey and then back down to far sawrey?

Up from far Sawrey then down towards hawkshead. That's the only option I've ever done. There'll be some walkers for sure, but it's not narrow windy single-track so pretty easy to manage

controversially felled

In what way?

I think it's starting to get back to good condition now.

I normally meet a handful, but not enough to spoil it, but you could be unlucky, of course. If you're running short of battery then just climb up past the tarns at Near Sawrey on that BW and drop into Hawkshead that way.

I wouldn't bother with The Fox at the moment, nor Parkamoor-Nibthwaite. But the Fox will be a fun climb on ebike after leaving Hawkshead, plus that gives you a logical way back to the VC.

Breasty Haw East and Devil's Gallop/Hole in the Wall are running great right now.

In what way?

The logging wagons basically destroyed the track and everything was left covered in mud and brash for ages.

I guess it's quite hard to fell an area without screwing up trails. It's still not quite as good as it used to be, but is a lot better than it was. They actually closed the BW for quite a while, I seem to remember.

No, it's not the same as it used to be - especially the sunken corners at the end.

I'm amazed anything was salvaged, I've never seen a RoW trashed that badly.

Yeah they messed that up really badly. But it’s better now.

From claife hàng a left and head west down to Colthouse. Great descent! And then cake at Minstrels gallery in hawkeshead then up the bridle way to moor top via a bit of the nf

Thanks for the various route suggestions,

We did garburn pass on Friday afternoon.

On Saturday we did a big 5500 foot ride taking in parkamoor, breasty haw, hole in the wall, the fox (in both directions) and various other descents. That breasty haw descent is a cracker. Didn't have enough battery to get up the claife Heights and more over that way, will give those a go next time

And then today we did the borrowdale bash route in wall to wall sunshine.
