Folks
Can anyone explain how the rights of access work here in relation to riding off piste stuff? I was particularly thinking about the stages from some of the recent enduros that have taken place down there. I'm from Scotland so don't fully understand how the rights of access laws apply. I've done some research but it does seem very unclear.

Many thanks for your help.

There is no right of access for biking, even in 'open access land' (which I don't think this is, anyway). The Forestry Commission are obviously happy for you to pootle around the fire road network, but would be officially unimpressed with lots of folk doing the special enduro stages which are either on FPs or completely off piste.

I wouldn't want to do anything that might jeopardise the access that the FC provide for the enduro events. Riding some of the FPs during daytime in the summer months and coming into conflict with the large numbers of walkers that use them would be a bit of a no-no for me.

I'm sure some riders manage some discreet out of hours cheek though.

I take it you've exhausted the miles and miles of excellent BW descents at Grizedale? I suspect the only reason many of them don't get used in the enduros is that legally you can't race on a BW.

What is unclear? In England it is legal to ride bridleways. On FC land it is generally OK to also ride the forest roads. Cheeky is always an option, but in National Parks not the cleverest idea.....

The enduro stage that ran off the Parkamoor bridleway has deliberate blockages and a big sign asking people not to ride. There is so much other riding round there I'm struggling to thing why anyone would want to keep riding that bit anyway.
