Heading to lakes with the family next week. Obviously taking my bike and was wondering if anyone could tell me what the trails are running like.... All open? I have limited time (early mornings as will struggle to disappear for the day)....

If anyone has a gpx of the routes and good off piste stuff I would be most appreciative.

Many ta's

We were in Claife last night and it was my first UK ride in August as I have been on holiday for 3 weeks in Europe, and I could not get over how wet it was. The ground is sodden like winter. Fortunately there are plenty of rocks to get you through.

There are dozens of routes around Grizedale that are only a wee search away. Easy option for two good downhill is to ride from Visitors centre up the BW named Silurian way to the Fox and then head along and down to the road. You can either do some other trails or turn around and do it the other way round.

Two other BWs to ride - Parkamoor to High Nibthwaite and the other side of Parkamoor down TO satterthwaite via Moòr Lane.

As for Whinlatter, I'd go and do the Borrowdale bash instead!

BW named Silurian way to the Fox and then head along and down to the road.

Top half of the Fox descent to Esthwaite was a mess a couple of weeks back. Some properly big troughs of water to get through/round.

Whinlatter fully open and running nicely last weekend.

Get the Vertebrate Graphics guide for decent Grizedale routes away from the marked 'Trail Centre' stuff, which is mediocre.

Rich is right, get a map and get up your nearest cheeky summit to where you're staying.. explore. Just climb for half the time you've got then turn round n ride back.

Great cheers fellas! Staying about 3 miles from Grizedale in graithwait. Yeah like the idea of finding a hill and just exploring 🙂

Probably take the solaris and croix with me so I can mix it up a bit.

Got some gpx rides for Grizedale. How long do you want them to be? Whinlatter is riding nicely at the minute and watch the HB160 video for some lines that aren't there for mortals. Oh and don't listen to Rich et al, Grizedale and Whinlatter are ace, just not real mountain biking apparently.

Hey Stoney... you recovered ?

*legal*
Park Ambleside, Loughrigg Terrace to Grasmere, Grasmere Tongue to Grisedale tarn, Carry up Dollywagon, Helvellyn, Lower Man, Raise, Sticks, Either Seldom Seen or Greenside, Glenridding, Angle tarn, Knott (you got lost ok ? I'll deny this conversation), Racecourse Hill, Thornithwaite Beacon, Froswick, Ill Bell, Yoke, Garburn to Troutbeck, Jenkin Cragg to Ambleside.

Lakes riding cant be classified in miles. But that should see you right. Start early and take lights.

How long have you got? Definitely Grizedale 'natural' from where you are would be the simplest option, probably ride from the door.

Really don't bother with 2-3 hours in the car in order to ride at Whinlatter. Ride from where you're staying! Claife Heights, Arnside, Loughrigg all good and you will actually see something unlike in Grizedale forest.
