I came by an old pair of gripshifts, 9 speed "7.0" model. Does anyone know if they are SRAM or Shimano rear derailleur compatible? I think SRAM, but not sure.

The front grip shifter will work either a Shimano or SRAM front mech but the leverage ratio is different on the rear mechs. An numbered SRAM grip shift eg "X9" will only work SRAM rear mechs. A named SRAM grip shift eg "Attack" will only work on a Shimano rear mech.

Shimano!

That's not the right answer, but might make you feel better!
As Matt says above, you can use it with just about any front mech (I use X.0 gripshifters with XTR front mechs) but you will need to use a SRAM rear mech.
