What grips - I like chubbier, but not fat, vibration reducing but not too squishy, grippy when wet but last well.....

And not silly money either. #tightgit

I'm liking my Renthal grips...they seem grippy and not chunky but have a bit of squidge to them.

These https://www.google.com/amp/s/singletrackworld.com/2018/11/review-the-odi-f-1-float-vapour-grips-might-just-be-the-perfect-option-for-british-xc-riders/%3famp

ODI float. My first foray away from regular rubber lock on grips, and they are superb. Putting them on the other bike now too.

Have eased arm pump/white knuckle gripping
on techy stuff noticeably.

Chromag wax

Medium chub

Full rubber grip instead of lock ones with plastic as part of the grip

They last me a year or two riding once or twice a week.

They noticeably reduced hand pain for me coming from bontranger lock on's.

I wire and glue them on, which is a bit annoying. It's worth it for the comfort!

I've got big hands and they are noticeably longer than most

I went to Ergon GA2 Fat after years on an assortment of ODIs etc.
Definitely highly recommended.

I like my Deity Supracush grips, maybe a bit too big and squishy for you though.

Just spent over a week on Deity Knuckledusters on a rental bike.

Liked them so much I bought a pair.

Usually use ODI Ruffians, and the Knuckledusters are preferable.

Thick-ish, squidgy-iah and seem to wear well👍

Been using these for the last 1k miles - they're great, but not sure if they're still available. If not I guess Ergons

ESI Chunky.

Never understood why people intentionally add weight to their bike with lockons.

Next?

I recently switched from DMR Deathgrips to Burgtec Minnaar bartender pros and I am liking them very much.

Just the right size and level of squishyness.

ESI chunkys are good too but I found that they are easily damaged (if your in the habit of crashing often).

Burgtec Minnaar for me too. Took off the stock skinny things that came with my bike and it’s been a night and day change.
The extra weight of the lock-on function has really been noticeable though 😉😂

Ergon GE1. I don't know why they work for me, because they're meant to be enduro grips and presently most of my riding is tame XC only but they just feel so great.

I'm probably the least grip sensitive person in the world,, buy I've been enjoying the DMR Deathgrips for a while, the hype is real. Comfortable, grippy and quite durable. They have a funky wear pattern, they start to look like crap rapidly, but then stay in that reasonable state for a long long time.

At the time I got them only the flanged version was in stock so decided to try that. To my surprise, the flange is great, love it (maybe because I used to spend lots of time on motorcycles).

My only gripe with them are the closed ends. I'd much prefer them to be open and just use my lovely Hope barends

Deity Knuckledusters. Love them.
Really liked my Burgtec Minaars as well, just like the Deitys a bit more.

Deity Supercush get thumbs up from me
I also rate One Up grips, but they're a bit thinner.

I am loving the fabric magic grips - super cheap comfy and they last longer than they look like they should. I have just bought a second pair.

ESI Chunky, but use an old lock on the end to protect them, this way they last a long time.

I like the ODI Vapor a lot and I think they tick all your boxes. I like ESI too but they're so easy to damage, the ODIs are similar in use but much much tougher. Lifespan is still less than a rubber lockon but not horribly.

Only real downside imo is that uplift trailer straps can maul them pretty quickly.

PNW loam grips are my current favorites.  A tiny bit thinner than the larger death grips and not quite as soft but still pretty soft and lasting very well . 16 pound is a pretty decent price to.

Standard roundish grips. ODI Elite Pro and Ergon Fat Grips are the best I've tried, but they bloody should be for the price!

Mates got the Oury ones with the big square blocks and they feel nice.

If you are not against grips with little winged bits those Specialized body thingy ones are very good.

I’m enjoying my DMR DeathGrips. Can’t remember if I bought hard, soft, thick or thin. Otherwise the only others that I’ve really liked were the Kevlar Renthal strips and original ODI Ruffians. I’m thinking of going for the Burgtec Minaar ones next time now that I’m on a hardtail, they look a bit bigger. If I had the money I’d try the Rev grips

another one on the burgtec minnaar's here but mine are the super soft ones, really like them but don't think they'll last that long

Another one for ODI Elite Pro. Just swapped them on to my bike to replace some Ergon’s I wasn’t getting on with.

Like:
Renthal kevlar
Supercaz gripz
Gusset single collar one

Dislike:
Dmr deathgrip. It's like 2 grips joined together and whilst the outer one is ok, it's too short. Overlapping both is all sorts of wrong.

Has anyone tried the Fabric 50:01 grips? I used to really like ODI Attacks and the Fabrics look like a modern version of those.

I tried some Wolf Tooth Fat Paws but they were too girthsome for my right thumb (old injury) so had to go back to the ESI Chunky/Racer mix which has a thinner portion where your thumb wraps round but fatter elsewhere. Perfect.

(sneaky For Sale: anyone want some cheap Wolf Tooth Fat Paws? 😉)

Try the Longneck V2.1 Lock-ons then - like Attacks, but better, longer and more secure (without the discomfort of an outside collar). Likely to be a better compound than the Fabric ones.

Just to be different, I'm going to agree with someone else :
"I really like Santa Cruz palmdales, pretty cheap too." Yup, got them on 2 bikes.
Best thing you can say about grips is that you don't notice them.

Weight?! Adding weight with lock ons? Was that serious!?

On One Foam, five year old set still going strong and still nicely reduce riding buzz.

I really like the now-discontinued Specialized SIP XL grips. But as you can’t get them, Deathgrips in thick soft are great (despite seeming/feeling like a weird mash up for the first few moments of gripping the bars). I have the flanged ones and just trim the flange back by the shifter.

I'm happy with thick DeathGrips (non-race, 20A compound) but the top of the outer thirds has worn surprisingly quickly, although it doesn't affect the feel. Also pretty easy to take a chunk off them in a crash. Feel and grip are great, no raised lip around the outer edge, and slim collar that doesn't foul my thumb when shifting.

I'll probably try the Burgtec Bartender Pros (standard, 30A compound), partly due to the durability but also curiosity, going on previous recommendations on here as well as those in this thread.

I had the normal rubber Deathgrips a few years back and HATED them, oddly i then ordered some of the super soft race ones recently and really like them. I've been using Joystick Emulators for a while now and really like them, but they wear out incredibly quickly. Depending on wear rate i may start using the race deathgrips, but then i'm also tempted by the deity supracrush's.

Deity Knuckleduster's on both my bikes..

I've messed around with Deathgrips, and Burgtec Minaars grips and find the Deity's similar in design but better than both...slightly more cushioned, just better.(found the Burgtecs quite thin and harsh feeling)

I must be the only person who doesn't like deathgrips, the way they left the pattern imprint in my palm wasn't appealing, minnaar bartender pros are decent but Oury v2 are my fave, super soft n comfy but they show signs of wear a bit quick.

I need to stop glancing over previous comments but I'm just lazy, I recently spotted the PNW grips, look like they could be a winner and tempt me away from Oury v2's, they're a good price too, but the popularity of deathgrips will always baffle me.

I had death grips for a while and really liked them, just didn't realise how much at the time.
Moved on to some ergon thick grips and didn't like them at all. Was an experiment in trying some girthier grips and I had hoped they would be a bit more cushioned, just ended up developing callouses and pain.

Now I've got the bolt on version of the odi longnecks and really liking them. Good size, really grippy and very comfortable.

Cripes, I just buy a load then weigh them ... that extra gram is a killer after a long day and lifting the bike onto an uplift or a huge drain on the battery if I had an ebike.

More seriously ... happy with the ODI roughnecks... kid has some DMR deathgrips for about a week and they were wrecked after a single crash with the rubber end.
