Hey all

Up in the lakes for this week with he family. Obviously planning a proper day out on a bike at some point but......

Staying about a mile from greystoke forest and keen to see if there is anything there or really close by in a different direction I could zip out and do while my girls are having a lie in. Needs to be up to 90 mins at most and ideally not involve getting in the car to go anywhere. Can be tame with nice views or fun gnar as I would be solo and don’t want to bother the emergency services.

Anything fit the bill?

Mungrisedale has some old mine tracks heading into the North and Eastern edge of the hills, could make a pleasant spin?

Beyond that heading down to Ullswater, Pooley end, gives you access to more than a few classic trails up on either Matterdale Common/Great Dodd or Askham Common.

It's 30 years since I lived there, time may have changed some of the trails options....

Not sure you can ride in Greystoke? I might be wrong. I've only done road stuff in that area, lots of quiet lanes. Fear you may need to drive places

We were round there this last week. Think Greystoke only encourages walking, and looked like some logging / digger action when we drove past.

Lanes are mostly small and nice / quiet - just watch the bigger b roads which get a bit local driver racetrack-ish around commuting times of day.

The bw up Mosedale to Skiddaw House is OK. You could do an out / back up there turning round after 45min. You might just make the loop up there - Threlkeld - c2c signed bike route back (or go the opposite way to descend the Mosedale singletrack).

Plenty of mine tracks to explore Carrock Fell - Caldbeck - fairly dull / gravelly but OK just to get out for a spin.

GS Forest is closed to bikes unfortunately - access restricted since Tillhill took over I think.

Best bet is probably just to link up some of the BWs (eg Fort Putnam - Blencow, Greystoke Moor - Motherby (best ridden this way), GS Forest - Ellonby) with some long road legs.

Otherwise, MOAB and White101 are spot on.
