On another thread a chap suggested the great glen way is a nice wee gravel ride. It's apparently accessible from central Inverness, but I tried finding it today with no success.
Is it a designated trail that I'm missing, or is it just along the main road to Loch Ness? Basically I'm looking to cycle about 20 miles out of town, turn round, and head back into town.
Any ideas? Or anyone got a gpx route or decent map? Ta
It starts in front of the castle, just down from Flora Macdonald. There is a stone marker post. From there, its mostly alongside the river, then through Ness Islands, and paths up towards Craig Dunain.
Most of it is quite well signposted, though there might be a few diversions for construction work.
It is on OpenStreetMap, shown on this map, it lets you download a GPX. https://hiking.waymarkedtrails.org/#route?id=126572&map=13!57.4581!-4.2597
I wouldn't bother, must be much better rides around there. I did the entire route and found it dull
Thanks Craig..
I found the stone marker by Castle but it was pretty vague where the route actually was..
So I stick to the path by the canal, and cross over a few of the bridges then I can't really go wrong?
If u send me your email i can send you my strava link for it.

its a good route on mostly easy riding, with a few pushes up steep climbs. At least from the FW to Inverness direction when using the high level options.
id recommend it for sure so long as you’re not planning any gnarr
It's doable on a singlespeed road bike, even this...

But more relaxing ride on an mtb or a gravel bike. Some great scenery.
