I'm getting to become a bit of a convert to greasing/lubing as the winter is drawing to a close...
I've been noticing my pedals have felt a little 'sloppy' lately, almost as though i'm moving and flapping my foot about at the top of the stroke. (wellgo B-54's) They're about a year old and haven't been touched. So whipped them off the arms, greased them and today they're just MILES nicer LOL.
Added to this, last night i was prepping the bike for Llandegla this weekend and noticed the cranks were exceptionally stiff... whipped off the cranks, took off the seals from the XTR BB and the non-drive side was very dry and a bit rubbish (will need replacing soon) but a good chunk of grease in there and it's a lot better !!!
However, put it all back and the cranks were still stiff.... weird... traced it with the process of elimination to the lower jockey wheel on the mech which was almost siezed !!!! Whipped out, not an ounce of grease in there (well, it is 18 months old, 4000 miles and never been touched)... Threw some grease in there and WOW... miles better !!!
I'm a convert !!!!
Yep...a blob of grease is much cheaper than any new component.
Preventative maintenance will take a bit more of your time up, but hopefully prevent failures of many expensive bits 😉
