I've an old Orange, so as much as I'd like a Reverb I need a 27.2 seatpost.

So at today's CRC prices should I get myself a Gravity Dropper?

£70 off looks good or should I be looking at anything else?

My X-fusion Hilo seems to work well.

I like my GD, mine is the classic version tho' with the lever on the front of the post.

It just works , very simple design, nicely made and hasn't gone wrong.

I gave it a bit of TLC after 12 months which took all of 15 minutes simply undo it , clean it and re-grease.

...sounds like it'll compliment my Five nicely then 🙂

KS Lev is available in 27.2 - a few quid more though, even from Germany.

If you're going to be fixing it yourself the GDs are a doddle to strip clean and re-assemble, even a mechanical numpty like me can manage it. "consumable" parts are pretty cheap too.

I suspect if you can get past the aesthetics they're the most reliable solution on the market at the moment.

get past the aesthetics

...it's going on a Five, I can't see this being an issue 😉

Tempted by one of those for my 2006 Five as well. As you say, something that looks a bit agricultural but just does the job with no fuss sounds like the perfect fit.

Cheers,

Andy

It's a pretty fair price... I love my GD but I don't think I'd pay full price for it these days.

Oh and since it's CRC you can get an extra £5 cashback by going through topcashback etc. (if you're feeling charitable you can use my referral link 😉 But tbh it's well worth doing, free money.

I have a GD on one bike and a Reverb on the other. The GD has been great - ugly as sin, but great. Low tech and very reliable is my take.

The Reverb is streets ahead in my book, due to the ability to setting at any height you want, but I'd have no hesitation in recommending a GD, providing you're happy with just two height settings.

Mine works fine, on my HT, no oil painting but I'm not looking at it when I'm on the bike.

You can easily drill a third hole like i have to give more adjustability

Go for the classic multi has 3 heights settings and it won't be the crap out of you balls: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=30191
