Just curious. Anyone taken the boot off their Gravity Dropper permanently? Have read in a couple of places that people had removed them and had no problems with increased maintenance/damage etc. That boot isn't the most pleasing to look at.

Cheers all.

After mine seized early into the Skyline loop on Sunday, I think the boot does **** all anyway. 👿

Agreed Junkyard.

I have a hunch though that the boot gets in the way a bit when dropping to the low position. There's a definite 'sweet spot' to get the whole thing working well and with the boot off, it seems that sweet spot is a bit wider! I've also noticed that the boot does hold crap in it which can't help.

I have never given it much thought I assume it does trap grit /dirt etc but also keeps a lot on the outside as well. my lod one never really stay sin the top bit so I assume it lets in mor ethan it used to but I have never noticed and diff in performance as a result,

Took mine off yonks ago, tried to use a bit of Innter Tube to replace and it failed - removed all together and had no issues

Would a modified neoprene chainstay protector work instead? It might look better and it'd be removable / washable after a ride, reducing crud build up.

Tried a neoprene cover - when the dropper was in its low position, the neoprene bulked up more than the boot and stopped the pin from locking in place. One of those very thin xc inner tubes worked okay but looked even worse than the boot!
