So, planning a possible trip, riding from home (Leeds). The window of opportunity is:
- leave Fri 7pm ish, 2-3 hours riding. Pub. Bivvy.
- Saturday, 8-12 hours, bivvy spot (2 hours ride away from Leeds)
- Sunday, up with the sun, back in time for breakfast (wife has to go to work)

Possibly gravelly. Possibly Tarmacy. Possibly bivvy one night (probably the first night) at the top of Malham.

Any suggestions as to routes and bivvy stops with amazing sunset/sunrise views.

The weather will of course be amazing!

Gel.

Fri 2-3 hrs: Ride out to otley then steinburn. Loads of woods to bivvy in.

Sat 8-12 hrs: head out around the dales, could go up to nidderdale, or wharfdale and aim for ilkely moor - a wild bit.

Sun 2-3 hrs boost it back to leeds past dick hudsons, shipley glen/baildon and then along the canal to boost the last few miles.

Only thing about day 1 is that 2-3 hrs + pub means a v late pitch. You have to faff for a bit. I know supposed to pitch late leave early, but a little bit of time with some light is good. Anyway Last Friday I did same as day 1. Started 7, rode 2 hours, 1 pint, pitched Ilkley moor, some food and some whiskey, watched the light fade. Was spot on for timing

Another option to make either night a bit further out would be to combine with train somehow. Lugging gear for 8-12 hours to only bivvy in the end both times quite close to home seems a lot of work.

Ps i agree generally with mrchrist. Also harder to find bivvy spots nr Leeds than out in the wilds (though I can think of some places)

Keep thinking of stuff. good one I did last year, was
Started in Burley in Wharfedale about 4pm, out over moors towards thruscross resr, moorland trails to appletreewick, grassington. Pies (lots of them) and beer from the Spar in grassington (good!) Camped at rylstone cross on barden moor (v. atmospheric). A few hours sleep.
Back the next day v early via bolton abbey, addingham, ilkley, menston, guiseley, canal. Was back for about 10am 100Km ish. I was wrecked afterwards, but it was ace.
