I’m hoping some will know before I commit. I'm hoping to ride from Lake of Menteith to Callander, as part of a bigger loop, but my wife has a low threshold for what is 'acceptably' gravel. She's on an e bike so a hill isn’t a problem, but she still sometimes suffers a bit from a concussion a few years ago, if she gets bounced too much. I gather that the Rob Roy Way out of Aberfoyle has a section which is boggy, rocky and difficult, and I would definitely suffer if she does. So I was wondering if the track north from Lake of Menteith at Portend (grid ref 571012) is OK to ride, or will someone make a fuss? From there the RRW looks like easier going, and we've done the last bit into Callander. Thanks in advance.
No issues riding that track, lots of folk do it. Though there is a locked gate at the end of the tarmac so you may need to lift an ebike over it. Stiff climb from Portend mind you. It's a while since I've done it so can't advise on the current state of the track but it I just a stony rough track. You are right that the RRW hill track can sometimes need wellies in places!
Perfect, thanks. E-bikes means a climb isn’t so daunting, and they’re light enough to lift over regular sized gates.
