I’m looking for a new set of carbon gravel wheels (sub £1000)in 700c.

I’d like to run 40 - 42mm tyres.

Any suggestions please?

I can vouch for Roval Terra CL. Not moved a smidge under my 90kg frame.

Roval are north of £1k

Token - bit narrow for 40mm tyres (ones I’ve found)

Hunt - I’ve been looking at:

All road only 20mm internal width - bit narrow for 40 tyres (according to them)or would they be okay?
X Wide - Hookless design (not sure on these?)

These look okay - but I’m not sure if they are gravel wheels? (Wiggle say yes / cycling press say no?) There’s also no tyre size guide for them on the link.

Not in budget, but if I had the money I'd have bought a pair of these. Really miss them!

I've got the Hunt Gravel wide on my Gradient. It came from Reilly with 43mm Graveking SKs on and they've been great.

ST have just done a review on some Arrow carbon gravel wheels. Can't say anything about the wheels, but the Specialized pathfinder tyres are great for local lanes / gravel.

I’m using a few sets of Light Bicycle rims, got WR in a couple of different depths at the moment. Got one with 42mm GravelKing tyres on them, great tyre profile, easy to tubeless. Rims approx £200ea. Only problem is the wait for delivery from China. They do ready built wheels also that are good value and well built.

Stayer cycles handbuilts are absolutely excellent although slightly over budget. My set have been light, fast, strong, wide, and resistant to pinching tyres when run tubeless. I’ve deffo come to the conclusion investing in a reliable and rebuildable hub is a good thing in the long run. Only minor nitpick would be drain holes would be nice.

Nice to support a small business too

Ps they do an alloy build well in budget too!

Based on the 2 sets of road wheels I’ve had off them, Just Riding Along. Easily the tightest and best built wheels I’ve owned in nigh on 30 years of riding. Zero problems with the Bitex hubs either.
I was looking at their carbon gravel wheels recently and iirc it’s £850ish for a pair.

I've a pair of JRA Monitor alloy gravel wheels, work great with 50c tyres and they've done +2000 miles of Scottish & Northern gravel without even a spoke tweek.

I'd go 6-bolt rather than centre-lock though next time (just so I've not 2 standards).
