I'm in the process of turning my old (but still lovely) 26" hardtail into one of these gravel-groveller things. I've got a reasonable amount of room for 27.5 wheels with ~47mm tyres, so that's the route I'm going.

The missus is running Gravelking SKs on her bike and likes them, but I can get the WTB Byways at mates rate. The WTBs look like they'd be faster on tarmac, but a bit sketchy on looser stuff, having a slick centre tread, but I've no idea if that's actually true.

Riding will be mostly Peaks based - Cannings, Houndkirk, Stanage Causeway, Ladybower, Brough & Shatton Lanes, maybe High Peak & Monsal trails, plus the road bits in between.

Thoughts?

Thanks...

I've just put 700x38 tubless Gravel Kings on my CAAD X and they've actually surpassed my expectations in terms of road noise and grip, actually looking at my commute on strava there's been very little differnce in times compared to my road bike but a noticeable increase in comfort due to volume. Grave; wise I'm still exploring the grip but fine for my bridleway bashing. Can't comment on the WTB's though

I’ve had both on my Salsa Vaya, for me the Gravelkings were marginally slower on road but grippier on the gravel than the byways. So it’s down to where your priorities are. I’m now running Soma Cazadero 650b tyres which are better in every dept than the gravel kings and he byways where I’m riding. Super fast on tarmac and awesome onngravel. Win Win!!
