Colour me interested - I like the look of the rambler, but no experience.

Any idea which has "more" puncture protection, EXO or silk shield?

Silkshield is a bit heavier, but looks to be a different proposition to the EXO.

Particularly looking at tyres that will stand up to the flinty nastiness that is the north downs...

The Rambler Exo has been rated fragile in every review I've read. The puncture layer is sidewall only, next to the bead-bead of the Silkshield. Plus, the Exo is 120 tpi and the SS 60 tpi

My ex-parter used to have the Exo on her ex-bike -- they were very supple, but she didn't have them long enough to text durability

I've had the Silkshield version and they were solid

I imagine flint would write off Exo's very quickly

I’m running Ramblers on my gravel bike. 700 x 45c Exo’s. I like them. Definitely prefer them to the Gravelking SK’s that came with the bike.

Much better off-road grip than the gravelking’s but seem to roll just as well on the road. I did a 43 mile road ride on the bike last weekend with the club and was pleased that it wasn’t too difficult to keep up with others on road bikes. One guy I was riding with commented on it, saying how little road buzz I was getting compared to how the tread and tyre size appeared. Seems a pretty good all rounder.

I tried Terravail - Rutland and another one of their products on the rear. Didn't have them for long as it was a 650b experiment that failed. They seemed a bit fragile tbh, cut easily. Never tempted to try again and not worth the premium imo.

Gravel kings are fine for summer but they didn't work especially well for me in any sort of slop.

The Pirelli Cinturato Gravel M are a tractor type tyre - middle bead gives good road speed too. I ran the 45mm version for events like Dirty Reiver and they've been faultless.

I've recently converted to Conti Speed King 40mm - just because they are supposed to be faster. Not as much grip though. Time will tell but OK so far. Seem robust and manage mud Ok.
