Childminding duties meant a ride after work Saturday and an early finish Sunday morning 8.30am. Been meaning to do the Old Coach Road for a while now so cracked on reports of Kirkstone Pass being closed was unfounded lots of snow on the hills but the road was find just a tad slippy in places. Turned off at a Hartsop and did a mix of footpath and BW towards Glennriding all rideable

Out of Glennridding I came across a gravel path on the left after ignoring it for ages  took the plunge and it was great with easy self close gates! Took me all the way to the turn off for Dockray nice climb on the road took me to the start of the OCR . The snow was getting thicker and I was getting a bit apprehensive due to reports of damage from Storm Desmond but I cracked on with light fading.27540154_10156216104066474_6696286051385658941_n by Richard Munro, on Flickr

Track was fully rideable with huge puddles, was grateful I was wearing gaitors! The descent down to the road had my arms aching.

Bit of road to the Thirlmere  and it was vehicle free with it being closed to traffic lots of owls about. Dropped down into Grasmere and a quick couple of pints at Tweedies rode up Redbank with a little offoad section then spun down to the ODG which had a fine selection of beers awaiting 🙂

They were all out of  meat pie so after  a lush apple pie headed off to the Brittiania for my main meal via the cycle route along fast rolling route.

Various beers at the pub ,kit dried I left at closing in search of shelter which I found at the top of a hill , got my head down for 12am in a shed, set the alarm for 6.30am . Cracking nights sleep up and away down Lougrigg Terrace in below freezing conditions and through Ambleside and stuck to the road back to Staveley for a bacon and egg buttie and a brew at More bakery. All sorted I set off and was immediately in a heap due to black ice limping home with a swollen knee and bruised thumb feeling annoyed after staying on my bike all of yesterday in silly conditions. Great route 70 odd miles in total worth it if you fancy a bit of off road dropped bar shenanigans.

Good effort sir

Nice. There is something odd with that photo, the wheels are oval!

Is there a way to get the GPS route from relive? I fancy giving this a go at some point.

I don't think so - Relive is a third party service so they'll call Strava's API to get the data and then visualise it and throw the original data away. You'll need Rich to give the link to his activities

yes there is.

Go here:  https://mapstogpx.com/strava/ add their button to your favourites/bookmarks

Take the number form the end of the relive URL

Add to a strava actvities url:

https://www.strava.com/activities/1390073590

now click your Strava to GPX bookmark

Download nice gpx file

There is a section between Hartsop and Rooking (Patterdale) that is footpath only - the b/w goes up to and then down from Boredale Hause. The owners of the property are quite sensitive to bikes. I stay in Rooking every year for the last 10 years or so and was 'spoken to' once or twice so don't go that way anymore.
