Okay I’ve got a Mason Bokeh 2 and currently run 700c GravelKing 38s on it, I’m thinking of putting GravelKing 43s on for a bit more versatility/ stability / comfort etc. wheels are Zipp 303s.
Basically anyone done similar and noticed a benefit over the 38s.
Not looking to do ‘single track’ on it I’ve a Soark 900rc for that.
TIA
No idea what a Soark is but I’ve got a Spark (hamfisted fingers!)
Not looking to do ‘single track’ on it
Not sure why you'd restrict yourself but anyway, Presume if you are running GK you are only looking for dry weather tyres?
40mm Goodyear connectors, pirelli cinturato H or M in 45mm are great. WTB resolutes are a great all rounder if you ever dabble on some variable off road trails
Thanks Rocketdog
Reason I don’t use my gravel bike on ‘proper’ single track is because I enjoy it more on my MTB 🙂
As for tyres just wondered if the size up to 43 from 38 is a worthwhile spend.
I think 40c-45c is sweep spot for me for gravel tyres, smaller than that and i struggle in some of the sandy areas near me, bigger than that and i figure i might as well be on hardtail.
WTB Resolutes have become my default tyre, roll pretty well, half decent grip and can often be found for a fair price, unlike many.
Got a set of Teravail Cannonball 700 x 47c to try though for a change this weekend
I've not tried many gravel tyres, but I really like my WTB Raddlers and I just grabbed a pair of heavily discounted Riddlers (slightly less knobbly) of CRC.
Might be worth a try for you?
I’ve just bought some WTB Byway tyres from Ribble (my preferred gravel tyre). Only £12 each so might be worth checking what they’ve got…
From memory the GKs in ‘38’ are actually 40mm if you read the carcass mouldings, and the ‘43’ were originally sold as 40mm despite being oversize. Will you notice an additional volume created by 3mm? Probably not.
I have a wtb raddler on the front of my Genesis datum and the side knobs are being to come away after not too many miles on some admittedly rocky Spanish gravel (Riddler on the back is doing ok though)
I had riddlers nice but puncture prone
