[Closed] Gravel bike tyres recommendations

I've already had experience using almost entirely slick 38c tyres for long rides both on and off road (Kenda Kwik Tendril, so nothing fancy compound wise). They were absolutely fine, although I wasn't ragging muddy or loose corners, and did have some small slips when braking on steep grass.

I've since upgraded to Vittoria Tereno Dry which are virtually slick in the centre but still have some tread on the shoulders. Have given them a bit more punishment (deliberately leaning into corners, getting waylaid in thick sticky mud etc.) and have great faith in them.

So on that basis, I think you could get away with some that is virtually slick, maybe with some corner knobs. It seems that the lighter slick tyres (Panaracer) seem to have a reputation for punctures, so go with something heavier e.g. in the 500g range for a 38c tyre?

WTB byways.

Slick centre section so nice and fast on tarmac, and still good on dry off road stuff. Run them at 30-35psi for tarmac and a bit less on dirt.

Really pleased with WTB Resolute, although they are very difficult to find/sought after now.

Got great reviews and one of the fasest on tarmac compared to others.

Don't go resolutes if your 70% road. They are a good tyre but more for winter offroad use.

I would go, byways, venture, or cannonball (I think they do 650b from memory)

my commute is 70% tarmac. What do people recommend?

Schwalbe G-One Speed or G-One Allround, depending on preference for more grip offroad or more speed on. Anything more treaded and you'll wish you'd bought something more slick with a 70% tarmac commute I fear.

I have a newish (two rides old) terravail cannonball/ rutland combo for sale as swapped over to 700c

OP - what’s more important - lightWeight or puncture-resistant? Hang about - you going tubeless or tubes? Also what’s other 30% terrain?

Thanks for the replies..... The other 30% is bridleway and dirt tracks.... and prefer puncture protection the weight saving. These will be on a enduro bike so not bothered about weight saving.

I was going to say 2.1 Nanos as have has success with them on mixed surfaces/conditions, but did notice them puncture a fair bit with tubes in.

Reading the review and recommendations I’d be looking at G-Ones, specifically

Cheaper option is Schwalbe Landcruisers. I use these and they are great ATB tyres and nigh on bombproof. They need high pressures for the tarmac though.

An enduro bike? I'd stick to MTB tyres. Planet X are doing various fast options cheap - Geax Mezcal, Panaracer Comet, Vittoria Peyote.

hey all, im looking for some mud gravel tyre recommendations. Currently im running some panaracer gravel kings which are find on road and hardpark but I do a lot of "gravel" riding through mud where they just clog up and provide zero traction so looking for something with more aggressive tread. I had Riddlers, they were great to ride.

Unfortunately they punctured one to three times a week, and they were bastards to get on and off the wheel.
In the 6 months before I put them on I had some Specialized tyres (I don't remember which) and got one puncture. In the year since I ditched them for Vittoria Revolutions I've had none. In the two months I had the Riddlers - riding over the same terrain - I had 18! Glass, thorns, bits of gravel - everything worked its way in and made a hole.

Fun tyres, but NOT recommended.

Been running WTB resolutes for 18 months great all rounders apart from deep winter off road when I swap to something more aggressive like a sendero. Otherwise they roll well on tarmac and loose stuff. Tubeless is a must though

I have used the Schwalbe G-One and Specialized Trigger Pro. The Schwalbe G-One wear quicker although are lighter and possibly quicker than the Tiggers and am only running the triggers as where I currently live the rocks are sharper + more sticks. The results of the sharper rocks and more sticks had me tearing the Schwalbe G-One twice.

@joepud I've got the Terreno Mix in 38C TNT and in softer, muddy conditions have found them to be much better than the Gravel King SK's - I still use 47c Gravel King SK's on my 650 wheels. I did take ages to decide on which to get, the Mix or the Wet versions but the Mix have proved to be as capable as I need offroad but also surprisingly agile on the road. They size up larger than 38mm on my 19mm rims, pretty much 41mm according to calipers.

I've been using nano's tubeless on my escapade for a few yrs, the 40c version. great on the road, great on gravel tracks and trails. OK when it gets a bit winter sh&tty etc.

I keep thinking I'll try something else but they just work as an all rounder. No punctures, no leaks.
