I never, EVER, thought i'd be interested in a gravel bike. But hey ho. So for around the £1k ish mark i can see Pinnacle Arkose at Evans for £800 - but the spec seems quite poor, On One Rujo and the Plant X London Road. I guess at this price point comfort takes precedence however i'd welcome any other suggestions.

Thanks.

Have you looked at Halfords Boardman gravel bikes. They offer good value and it’s one on my short list. Availability can be hit or miss though.

+1 for Boardman

Have a look at the ADV 8.9.

Great frame & fork and - importantly - decent Shimano hydro brakes.

I got a secondhand one and it's fab.

Upgrade the wheels later if you fancy some lighter ones, maybe change the bar tape, but that's all you'll really need to do.

Tredz have the Boardman in stock.

Look out for their ‘nearly new’ stock too, I picked one up with a tiny paint chip for about £250 discount.

What riding do you envisage?

Are you about 180cm tall?
Would you consider 2nd hand?

If so drop me a pm

I picked up a Boardman 8.9ADV off eBay a few weeks ago. I looked at a few of the 'best value' type reviews beforehand, and that consistently came top. The largest difference between that and a lot of it's around £1k competition is the GRX groupset with hydraulic brakes, the others typically have Sora with mechanical stoppers.

I had a choice of bikes on eBay at the time, generally in little used condition and spread around the country so I didn't have to  drive too far for collection. About half list price seemed typical. Here it is, although with better wheels that I already had. £650, also available in an eyecatching orange colour.

I got an Arkose at the beginning of the year and have been very impressed but I got the 3(I think, it has 2x10 hydraulic GRX) so only really had a cheaper wheelset.

It's been great on local gravel rides and also works well as a road bike with a second set of wheels. I did get mine on C2W so wasn't so much of an investment. You might be able to find one well priced 2nd hand with not much use.
