Cycle to work gives a potential choice between a Merida Silex 200 or a Giant Revolt 2 with the Giant coming in a couple of hundred quid more. Looks wise I prefer the Merida but would welcome any user experience with either bikes and, given my lack of knowledge, any feedback on specs. Cheers

You might get more responses with a link to the specs or a cut and paste of the specs

But the usual answer is the one that fits

I have a Giant Revolt. Really lively ride, fast light and has great tyre clearance. The model I got is all carbon including wheels and handlebars. They are great bikes. I’m going to change the tyres to 50mm which seem to be the Goldilocks width for gravel these days.

I haven’t ridden a Silex but they look good too so I’d say both are good options.

Having owned both a carbon and an alloy Revolt, I wish I'd never sold the metal one. It was such a great bike. I don't know what size you need, but Pedal On have some in stock and sent out a 15% off email last week.

Looking at the two, on spec alone there is nothing in it, looks is obviously personal but I prefer the look of the Merida, however the Giant is available in more sizes so that increases the chance of you finding one that fits better.

Sorry should have linked to the models in question. I’d be an XL as I’m 6’5”. It will be used for a few bikepacking trips and a bit of family greenway cycles initially.

The tyre clearances would tip my decision towards the Revolt. I run 45mm tyres at the moment but I want to try 50s can’t do that with the Silex.

I'd say ampthill has the answer because the Boardman has GRX and Hydraulic brakes over Sora/mechanical AND its cheaper. Not going to be much in it price wise even with Bikes to Work discount. Upgrading to hydraulic brakes later is extremely expensive due to the price of hydraulic brifters.

Appreciate that ampthill & tthew but the boardman isn’t an option at the 2 allocated places for c2w scheme.

Buy it anyway, it's a better specification and a very capable bike.

I had one to dip my toe into gravel, and after I made the decision to get rid of my road bike and just keep the graveller I upgraded it and honestly the replacement is no better. I should have just saved the money.

They're dead common second hand for even better value.
