Morning folks,
I'm heading to Gran Canaria next Wednesday for a week for some road riding. We're staying in a town valled Teror which is in the North of the island but well inland. I've got a few "must do" rides including VoTT / Serenity / Pico de las Nieves but I'm curios to know if there are any must do's in the North of the island?
Can anyone comment on the road that runs along the North West coast of the island between Agaete and Los Caserones? Looks pretty spectacular on the map.
Any other hot tips for a first time vistor to the island? I'll be taking my own bike.
after watching this:
i've decided to go to gran canaria in october ... looks amazing! (there's gpx links etc in the description)
Still haven’t got over the Valley of the Tears.
I think the GCN guys stole my planned route for that video. Although we won't be descending VoTT as we need to get back up north!
I've not got a road bike so I'll be on my CX bike 1x11 11-42. Probably ideal for winching up and big sticky 28mm slicks and hydrhaulic brakes for coming down.
Sadly I think the road is now shut after a landslide. It was an absolutely incredible drive.

Our resident hill grand master, Dan Evans, has a load of rides on his public Strava log from Gran Canaria around 15th January this year.
That's a shame! That road looked great. Wonder if a few of us could shift the 300 tonnes of rockfall....
That post was from Nov 2016 though, assume it's still closed?
Quick check on Strava seems folk have ridden it this month...

I wouldn't say I've got any "you must do this" type rides but my recollection of following my nose in the Northern hills were that around Fontanales was lovely - definitely plan that area in one of your routes. Some nice smooth roads, little traffic and some cruisy gradients - the road widths come and go though: a nice flowing, wide carriage way can suddenly become a single lane bottle neck between a rocky outcrop and a drop with a coach full of tourists stuck in it with very little notice!
Take some warm clothes and a water proof though! We stayed in a little converted farm hut quite high near Trujillo and shivered all week. We got sun burnt the day we drove down to Maspalomas where it had been glorious all week apparently but the cloud and drizzle in the North never lifted! That was March time a few years ago, I think.
