Hi, Can anyone recommend any good free sites for uploading gpx routes from for my garmin?
Ta
Dave
Ridewithgps and mapmyride. I've only discovered them lately myself, but I like them.
Try Bikemap
Or Wikiloc
Thanks Guys
Or Gpsies.com
There are a lot....
Bikehike as you get an is map as well as google at the same time.
I've never owned a Garmin, but I thought that they came with software that does this? (I must be wrong)
Anyway, I like:
because Bikehike doesn't store routes any more
The Garmin software referred to there is probably to log stuff to Garmin Connect (other online logging sites are available). Should be on every Garmin with a training bias.
Don't think Garmin has a site that's aimed more at routes to download and load on to the Garmin, or to upload interesting recorded tracks to.
I use everytrail, gpsies and wikiloc most of the time for that.
I use RidewithGPS a fair bit, it's quite a useful site especially for finding GPX routes of other people's rides of specific start points and distances. Makes specific length training rides a lot easier to plan.
gpsies.com is as ugly as sin but I've found it really useful
http://gb.mapometer.com/ is another option.
bikehike used to be my first choice. You could work around the inability to store routes by putting the GPX online somewhere, and sending a link to bikehike with a "lnk=..." parameter, but that seems to have stopped working recently.
I'll see if I can help get it fixed (my company hosts bikehike because I got fed up with his old hosting provider being unreliable...)

can't disagree there. although tbf, several other sites are not exactly pretty either, and everytrail has a mild case of flashturbation.
gpsies has quite a German bias to it, which is handy when living in Germany. other sites may have a UK bias (eg wikiloc tends to only report UK and Italian routes near mine, but never German ones)
The Endomondo website has loads of routes, is easy to search and uploads easily as it talks directly to Garmin connect.
