I saw these at Art in the Pearl in Portland, Oregon. The designer also builds wooden biplane frames.

I liked them in a 70's Dunlop Maxply tennis racquet sort of a way

plywood / engineered timber is a damn good material - after all mosquitos in WW2 were made from it.

prices are pretty reasonable for a full custom, hand made work of art... USD$2950 for the above R4, so £1900 or so, plus VAT & duty I guess... that's actually really tempting, perhaps at some point in my future 😆

Surely it must weigh a LOT? Or be pretty flexy?

I wonder if you had a lot of brake build up could you set fire to it? 😀

They were hollow. Weight was as light as carbon and they were really stiff.

I'd consider adding fire to theft insurance too.

Why isn't everyone using them then?

See the first image above, with the full build on the scales, reads 18lbs... not superlight, but pretty damn light nonetheless...

Yeah you're right, sorry I missed the scales in that picture. I was probably distracted by the wooden frame.. Does look very nice.

Im guessing this is because the cost reflects the amount of time and work thats gone into them.

Well £1900 isn't a crazy price for a frame, wooden or not. And this sounds like a small company, if a big company got a few factories dedicated to building these frames the price would come down loads, and the profits would go up.
