Now that it's getting a bit chilly I wear a synthetic body-hugging base layer and then a Gore ALP-X jacket. If it rains I put on a Paclite jacket.

On a couple of nights over the last two weeks my chest, kidneys, and lower arms have been cold so I'm looking for a mid-layer to slot into my layering system.

Any thoughts? I thought about a Craft jersey which has a windproof chest?

Got the Craft jersey excellent bit of kit.
But have just purchased a Rab Vapour Rise stretch top serves as base or mid hence very versatile.
Pricey but a superb bit of kit

Wear merino as a base layer and you'll stay warm. I've got a 260 weight Icebreaker that is worn on its own in the summer and then with a softshell on top in deepest winter.

Just wear 2 merino base layers, that's all I do when it's really cold. 1 long sleeve and a short sleeve over the top.

My Lusso winter bib tights are over 20 years old and the best bit of clothing I've ever bought.

I tend to just add a second base layer.

ditto the 2 base layers. If its really really cold I wear a short sleeved Gore one and a thick Merino or Helly on top, then shell. That said, I only wear a shell if proper wet, otherwise it's a warm softshell, Stealth or Phantom, and if I get cold on the ride pop a Gilet on top.

Vest and a soft shell is all I need. If its really cold - but dry I dig out a vintage Pace Racewear winteractive which is brilliant. Waterproofs only when it is really peeing down.
