Never done the CX thing but its calling. Been looking at the Lynskey procross with disc mount but the price is a staller for now. So the plan is to get a decent disc frame and build up with quality parts and if I like it et the Lynskey later and transfer the parts.
SO knowing nothing about cx I need disc frame recomendations (no carbon) and parts.
I assume that I can use pro 11 hubs but have no clue on rims and the only real option on disc brakes are bb7s.
So if you have time spec me a bike using strong kit. Most of my mtbs are xt/xtr/king/hope/thomson so good spec.
This is for roads and gentle xc ;o)
Ta in anticipation
Pete
it ain't CX unless you can't stop !!!

Cotic <x>?
Just buy the boardman
I'd rather get the Lynskey and put cheaper parts on rather than the cheap frame with high spec parts.
Planet X Uncle John - I've two sets of wheels; one for the road and one for off-road stuff. Top bike and it would be the one I'd keep if I were only allowed one!

Lazy ****! Do it yourself!
Cynic-al your so cynical, I ask cos I aint got a clue 🙄
Well, I run a Kinesis Tripster with Hope discs and yes, standard 135mm MTB hubs work. I'm running wheels with Stans Arch 29er rims.
Hope are prototyping a remote reservoir at the moment that will allow you to run hydraulic calipers although most people seem to rate the Avid BB7 ROAD calipers (which are a bit different from the BB& MTB brake).
I'm with aP, buy the Boardman.
My point is there's little crap kit out there.
Spec tiagra/105/ultegra & finishing kit to suit your preference and budget, there's no rocket science required.
Cotic Roadrat? could convert it into some sort of weird flat-bar 29er if the drop bar CX thing isn't for you? could build it up nice an cheap with a tiagra/apex groupo, cheaper shimano wheelset (R500/RS10), Truvativ finishing kit etc.
But as qwerty says, part of the CX bike initiation is browning one's pants as the trees come flying towards you, knowing you haven't got a hope in hell of stopping. The only thinkg that would make me give up my Arc-X is if they come out with one with a disc tab.
My main point however is perseverance: first time I rode my cross bike I bloody hated it, took me ages to overcome my fear of riding it offroad (properly offroad as opposed to groomed trails), but now I will never be without a cross bike, ever.
i don't get this disc thing on cx bikes, i have no issues with frogslegs you just have to take the time to set them up right. and tektros are supposed to be even better.
I've got a set of TRP Euro-X and they do actually work, munch through pads mind, but as I get more and more confident on the bike, the brakes are becoming more of an issue, as a lover of CX bikes, I can see the appeal of discs
Pete how about this, its not a true CX bike but probably easier to get used to?

Would upgraded to BB7's rather than the BB5's
cheaper shimano wheelset (R500/RS10)
I wouldn't take a cheap Shimano wheelset off road. The answer to the CX wheel question is always XT hubs and Open Pro rims with DT DB spokes.
I'd take any shimano wheelset off road -they weigh tons but are strong.

Which you don't with discs, also less mess, rim wear, better power in wet, the list goes on...
agree with Al, I was 16 stone when I bought the CX bike and the RS30 wheels which have been on it for 2 years have only required 1 tweek since.
they do weigh over 2kg tho, but tough as old boots!
why do you want discs on a cross bike? For all the same reasons we no longer use cantis on mountain bikes I guess.
I got hydraulic discs on my old commuter thinking they'd need little maintenance from the 5 mile on road commute - WRONG! Turned out to be a real PITA compared to the ones on my MTB (both Shimano).
I really wish I just had v brakes on it - just didn't have the time/inclination to spend ages fettling the hack bike. Cables would have been loads easier!
So I'm selling it and buying a CX bike - with cantis!

yeah, but we take MTBs up mountains, I'll keep my CX bike for mad thrashes along flattish singletrack which is where it shines, you only need to brake occasionally and simple, non-draggy, non-squeeky Avid cantis do the job fine.
Even my XT hydros which were the best discs I ever owned (until the seals failed) still squeeked and dragged occasionally, and a warped disc is harder to straighten than a buckled wheel.
I've got a Trek Portland with shimano road discs which I use for commuting and to tow a bobyak trailer and a full carbon race cx with Tektro wide cantis and to be honest the cantis are more reliable and require almost zero faffing whereas the road discs need constant setting up to stop them from dragging.
If the OP really wants a disc'd cx he'd have to go a long way before beating the new disc'd Boardman cx.
I wonder what I'm doing wrong with my hope e4 brakes then? They're powerful, progressive, don't drag or squeal and I'm not had to touch them since fitting. Just like the ones on the mountain bike really.
