Thinking about entering the G100 but unsure of how many laps to do. I want to be out for longer than the Spring Series XC races, up to four hours. Is the terrain pretty much as the Spring Series races?
Yes, very similar. It's shorter laps this year, so harder to judge.
No idea how quick you are, not how long you raced in the spring series, but 6 laps in under 4 hours would make you very quick, so I'd say 4 laps for 4ish hours, and 2 laps for 2ish.
Thanks. Looking at my average speeds for these, at the worse case (judging by the January Brass Monkey) 4 laps will take 5.45 hours (with a lap being 7.45 miles), best case (judging by rd1 of Spring Series) 3.45 hours. Oh well, 4 it is.
Terrain is similar although there's usually a couple of longer stretches of fireroad so you can refuel, etc. Also climbs tend to be a little less brutal, not so many extra steep ones (Pete take note before course setting)
I don't think they are as hard per mile as Gorrick XC's, but of course you're out longer so your efforts are generally more measured if you're doing longer.
TBH, unless you're racing, or counting every penny, or absolutely committed to getting a certificate at the end - sign up for more if you think you can do more in the time, no-one's going to force you to stay out if you want to finish early.
