Any thoughts on these?
I need something for Spring; My Proviz jackett is a bit sweaty.
Cheers
The army gortex I have is tough and hard wearing. Not particularity breathable but ok for work but less so for riding. Fit is rather loose.
I thought Goretex was very breathable, or there different grades?
I cannot find £200 plus for a cyclist specific one.
Sprongtime = softshell.
With a teeny tiny boil in the bag. Stuffed in a pocket.
Are you gonna be riding in persistent rain?
You might be better with a softshell jacket for a £50 budget if you're just expecting light rain or showers.
I rarely wear hardshell jackets now.
Given how things are going; its permanent rain.
I find softshell's that I have Katmandu etc to be sweaty as well.
I don't know about those newer ones but the old DPM type are ok for riding. The tails are fairly long but the sleeves can come up a bit short. They are a fair bit heavier than you'd expect from a "lightweight" cycling jacket.
As above they fit loose as they're sized to fit over the rest of an army uniform. I go for a smaller chest size than I actually am as I rarely wear them over anything thicker than a t shirt.
For that price go to decathlon 59 quid, water proof but most importantly pit zips, really breathable

QUECHUA MH500 MEN'S WATERPROOF MOUNTAIN HIKING RAIN JACKET - BLACK

Or a windproof with a good fleece Base layer combo, breathable warm but wet!
You will be boiled in a army goretex unlees you run very very cold aka zombie like.
Wow.
Silvermans. Blast from the past. Used to buy motorbike gear (ex-police, ex-army etc, etc) there 30 years ago!
Glad to see they are still going.
I’ve got one of these for really filthy days. £28 new off eBay. It doesn’t leak and it breathes as well as my gore bike stuff.
Having a hood over your helmet ( stop it) makes riding in the rain a joy. Good pockets and you really don’t worry when you brush up against thorn bushes.
If you ride a bike in this country you really need one.
The sleeves aren’t as long as bike jackets so go a size taller.

I agree with Zippy. I have one for filthy days out. Its great when you are exploring as it is tough and yet quite a soft goretex. The hood is ace. If you stop and camp etc then its a top garment. Also not too expensive!
You're gonna get wet feet riding in them Crocs though Zippykona
I only put them on as they nicely coordinated with the rest of my outfit.
This should keep you dry
Crocs probably don't let water in any slower than Five Tens, but at least they let it back out again..
But if you fall off, no one is going to find you.
I rarely wear hardshell jackets now.
+1.
The last time I wore a hard shell was when touring in scotland. I usually find warm and wet via a softshell and base layers is better than trying to stay dry.
I'm with Vondally, I prefer a jacket with pit-zips over a magical material. Decathlon jackets definitely are worth checking out.. my current one is (good god, I've just checked this..) 8 years old and tough as old boots.

The MTP GORETEX LIGHTWEIGHT JACKET doesn't have a hood and the arms are very short. I sent mine back.
The older one's like zippykona is modelling above are between for riding but try to buy a long but narrow one to get the longer arms but tighter fit. The aren't 'original' goretex thoguh and they aren't very breathable etiher.
That Andy Kirkpatrick blog had me riding softshells in the rain for a few years. I never looked back really.
I just ordered a set frome here, the lightweight goretex jacket and trousers for £40. If its like the goretex active, it should be a steal for dirty days out...and a simple pair of gortex overtrousers to make some shorts.
New goretex bivi £45 (i think a camo bivi bag is definately an asset) and and it looks like they have the Buffalo mountain shirt jackets for £25.
