I'm after a long sleeve jersey/softshell for days when my Endura Stealth is too much. I'm thinking a Gore Alp-X Thermo Jersey might do the trick.

Any advice / recommendations appreciated.

I rate it more as a spring or autumn jersey, not a jacket. You should be looking at a Phantom or an Oxygen

Yeah, but I already have an Endura Stealth which is very similar tech/performance to the Gore Phantom. I'm after something for coldish mainly dry rides when the Stealth is too warm.

What about the Cosmo WS

It's my default top for everything including being in the shop and running...

Our best seller too.

The Thermo has no wind-proofing at all, so you'd probably want to add a thin windproof gilet for the riding you're describing, otherwise, the Phantom is thinner than the Stealth and you can zip the sleeves off leaving arm warmers underneath for temperature regulation. That's how I layer up for cold dry rides.

I bought a Gore Alp-X Thermo for exactly the reason you mention - the days/nights when a full on jacket is a bit too much. I am a bit disappointed with it from that respect as it's not much use as an outer layer if there is any (cold)wind. I have ended up using it with a Gilet to keep the wind of my torso, but then you lose the benifit of all the side and back pockets.
I'm thinking it will be really good when the windchill isn't quite as wintery.
